Every track on this album is at least a 4.6, maybe even a 4.7. And maybe 4 are perfect 5s. It's so good that I'm worried about over-listening to it, having to force myself to actually consider listening to other albums/artists.

Perfect album for you then. Mine would be more like...

Face of Melinda - 4.65
Maybe one day they'll all be 5s.

That's funny as it makes mine soft...

Nice ratings. I'm pleased that so far we've got the opening 25 minutes (or thereabouts) of this record being absolute perfection.

spd is better than most tracks here though

I have it as my least favorite for a really nit-picky reason tbh. I love most of the song, but the part that always slightly rubbed me the wrong way was the beginning because of how it segues into the slower riff. I always thought there should have been some sort of transition, instead of the band coming to a complete halt before the chorus part happens
But that's just me, I suppose :}

Serenity Painted Death is probably my least favourite on here as well, along with the Camel song. Neither are bad per se, though.
I can't help but find the clean vocal sections in Serenity a bit cringeworthy. They just sound really weak and the end of the second one when it transitions into the growled chorus sounds really awkward to me for some reason.

I also agree that SPD is the weakest track on here, even though it has a lot of amazing moments
It doesn't seem as coherent as the other ones and also in certain moments lacks that special atmosphere that the rest of the album maintains

'instead of the band coming to a complete halt before the chorus part'
I absolutely love the track but deducted a mere 0.1 for that specific reason.

This LP might be my favorite from them.
The Moor is fucking fantastic.

'The Moor is fucking fantastic.'
I was 4/5 minutes into 'The Moor' when I decided these guys were my new favourite thing (it was the first Opeth track I'd heard). I don't remember loving something instantly like that for a long, long time. Special.

I just stumbled upon something that may or may not have been discussed 1000 times in this thread, but the opening riff of Benighted is taken almost note for note from Camel's - Never Let Go.

Yeah, it's been discussed at great lengths already. Still warrants discussion though, as it's often interesting hearing where Opeth's influences lay

@DungeonBoy - I actually noticed that too, man. This album is so good that I don't even care, though.

Honestly, even though I love Camel, I do still prefer Benighted to Never Let Go. That atmosphere on Benighted is fucking killer

Im pretty sure Opeth has a song on a later album which references Comus. And they borrowed some stuff on their early albums iirc.
