I can stand with mena on this. It's what I've said several times, lyrics compliment the music for me, and not the other way around. I see 'em as an enhancer, not a basis.

I love a lyric me. I'm the opposite if the music is god awful but an absolute pearl of a line is hidden in there it lifts the whole thing as a "piece"

got to admit im influenced quite a bit by those snappy wordplay type lyrics where the words gel together so well, not so much the trying to be profound but fails stuff tho

No matter what it has to be done with integrity and realism.
E talking about "radiation sore throat got your tounge" referencing his mother is classic and a hard hitter.
The problem is the fakery that abounds especially in the emo world.

some of them are great aye, i mean some of final cut is incredibly poignant, i spose that's one rare example for me where the lyrics make the album

There are albums where the lyrics are the high point for me but it usually has the music to back them up too

Yeah the Final Cut's lyrics are about as brutal as it can get while the music is still relatively straight-forward. Paranoid Eyes is a killer

Crime Of The Century's lyrics are what makes them so special (asides from the unique, perfect blend of pop and prog sound)

It depends on the artist/genre. Artists like Bob Dylan and Leonard Cohen are literally all about the lyrics. And of course I wouldn't like Tull half as much as I do if it wasn't for Anderson's lyrics.
