I love the sunshine, but its happiness feels too plastic and kind of awkward.
|
| |
ur right, don't let them get to you!
|
| |
But in general, some bands suit a happier upbeat tone, but Opeth are not one of them IMO. Theyre at their best when they're being gloomy and miserable

I agree, that's one of the reasons BWP is my favorite by them. But River works really well and it sounds really different and interesting

Second half of River is great, but the first half let's it down a bit. I was expecting something much darker when I heard the opening notes

You don't think they've done enough dark already???
|
| |
Oh I'm not saying I wanted darker album, I'm just saying based on the opening notes, I was expecting something a bit more sombre, only to hit by a wall of happiness

The opening to River is pretty happy sounding to me. And lol at us taking over both Heritage threads just having the same freaking conversation
|
| |
Well if we don't have it, i bet you someone else will. The happiness sounds forced to me

Maybe its a subtle sign to the listener that next album will be throwback to 70's pop instead of prog
|
| |
Haha, good one. Bee Gees cover album, maybe? I see their 70s prog spell coming to an end soon anyway, if they keep going

I went through a huge prog phase for most of this year but lately it's just all sounding really stale and repetitive, especially this throwback stuff Akerfeldt and Wilson keep doing. PC is a step away from that in some ways which I appreciate
|
| |
Welcome to my world right now. PC is a nice breath of fresh air at least but some of it also bewilders me in all the wrong ways. I also refuse to force myself to like it, so I'll just leave it for now and hopefully i'll be all over it soon

Yeah I'm gonna keep jamming the shit out of PC through its release and review it and Deliverance, finish Riverside's and maybe Pineapple Thief's discography, then probably take a long break from this genre. I've been getting into a lot of weird alternative/post-rock and indie lately which is much more listenable and not overdramatic and full of wank. You might've noticed that I've recently banished myself from DT threads too, mainly because just thinking about them now just gives me a headache at this point
|
| |
Listen to Alt-J's debut man! it's exactly what you're looking for from the sounds of it. I'm gonna finish the Death Grips and TPT discog by September before maybe diving into black metal a bit more. Hehe yeah, we both pretty much live on the DT, PT and Opeth threads, but they haven't been bumped recently either. It's all from memory anyway and haven't listened totem properly in well over a year

You could try listening to some real prog.

@Choccy: yeah I feel the same. If you're getting into BM, especially the genrebending stuff, I could give you recs, I jammed that stuff constantly when I was in high school
@JT: examples? Because chances are I do/have but I don't go on their threads too often
