I return to this every year around this time. I never gave the first album a chance so I think I'm going to make that a priority this week

Something about the production of Marrow lowers it just a tad for me compared to the previous three for them. Still awesome though

"the four album run from pale through this is almost unparalleled in metal IMO"

Moonsorrow, Windir, Gorguts, and Opeth come to mind

of course, every one of those bands is in the pantheon.

Immolation and Ulcerate come close, depending on how many dissodeath bands fit in the building.

Marrow is probably my favorite production job of their whole discog lol. I like that it has a live recording feel to it

I seem to remember they made a point to record the whole thing on analog equipment for this purpose

I enjoy this more and Pale Folklore more than Mantle and Ashes, but ONLY because of the fact I overplayed both of those to oblivion, and this and Pale still have some meat left on the bone for me

i personally was very very underwhelmed by serpent so i'm not sure i exactly want to hear new music from them but this'll always be a jam and a half

Hopefully if they do another album it means they were feeling inspired. Serpent really felt like they were straining for any ideas at all
