'CDs are the easy pragmatic way to backup your collection in a physical way. I handle them as a foundation.'
Yeah I'm a bit of a technophobe in some ways, can't be without that physical back-up, plus I just like looking at them. Admittedly space does become an issue and I buy a lot less these days but I just like the reassurance of a physical copy, I guess nostalgia plays a part as well because I used to buy a lot before digital became more prevalent. They are way cheaper than vinyl, otherwise I'd convert. Also like Doof says there's a ton of stuff you can find on CD that's now out of print (and maybe only on slsk), good luck getting such things on wax for a reasonable sum.

Agreed with most of what you said (nostalgia, liking a physical backup-you never know when Universal or EMI starts their own EMI+ like Disney did). I've always preferred CD over vinyl though, I'm not a vinyl person at all.

"Esp if it’s mainstream stuff you can stream anywhere"
that's one of the problems. especially when the rights to a specific album are not clear

oh and there's the paranoia of competing streaming services doing bullshit like the video game industry is currently: making exclusive deals to record companies like steam/epic games/rockstar launcher/nameyourlauncher do with games so you won't have your music in one spot. just like Trifolium indicated

Yeah exactly. I hate that so much. It's super relevant and very well possible that they're going to do this too, because there's lots of money to be made here.
Speaking about lots of money: why the hell is every cd-copy of this I see €90+!?

It's the same with the sports broadcasters, slowly but surely we're going to end with an American model (over here in the UK) where you have to pay for multiple packages just to watch one sport (or team), when that happens I won't pay for them all, I'll either pick one or just quit watching (apart from the pub), which is a damn shame. I'd do the same for digital music if it was getting to that point, if Spotify only had a relatively small proportion of what I wanted and the rest were on other services (but no-one had a majority), it would get ridiculous.
re this album: I think it's currently out of stock everywhere, I'm sure if people are patient it'll go back down to a reasonable price.

I won't lie, I spend more time just looking at them than actually using them these days. They will be accompanying me in the fallout shelter come World War III though.

I wish I could afford to buy music. Won't even be able to afford a streaming subscription as of next month. Being a student has downsides...
