"So the fact that the lyricism comes out as shallow and simple makes sense, since to actually put thought and reflect about complicated stuff other than who to fuck next and how to gaslight your loved ones is impossible for anyone like this."
Ye agreed, good point well made. Banal songscapes, horrifying evil.

Well, I'm glad that I don't really listen to this much anymore. Shame, it is a masterpiece.

Hey you guys could at least trade em in for a few bucks

The satisfaction I got from smashing my cd apart with a skateboard was worth the 75 cents I would have gotten for it at the local trade-in tbh

'Ironically, the reason I could never get into this album was because I felt its darkness largely felt hollow and over-performative' (2)
Spot on. Fuck me.
I didn't like this, but morbid curiosity is making me want to try again to see if it somehow makes the music more impactful. Then again out of all the 'separate art from artist' conundrums I've witnessed here on Sput, this seems like it could potentially be the toughest. It's more likely just going to ruin all the stuff of theirs I actually do like, rather than improve this.
I haven't read the full transcript yet, sounds like it might be a VERY tough read.

It really was a tough read, and it got worse as it went on. Probably one of the worst abuse allegations I’ve ever seen; it almost reaches Ian Watkins levels of depravity

I've commented on the article and will MAYBE read it if I'm feeling brave enough. I absolutely do not want to make this in any way about me (better here, than in the article I feel), but users have said NOT to read it if you're fragile... well I can be, but I want to read it anyway. I feel like if a victim has the bravery to release a full statement like this, it deserves to be read. Yeah it might make me feel very shitty for a bit, but considering what she's been through the 'sacrifice' doesn't even register.
Bloody hell, this makes me sound like I'm trying to be a 'martyr' or something, not my intention. I'm just way too honest on here sometimes. My general point stands, although I would say no-one HAS to read it if they can't, just a personal feeling.

It’s all good, I know what you mean. And I don’t think not reading it takes away from Lingua’s intent whatsoever. I like to think I’ve been desensitized enough, but I still felt sick reading the allegations. I think it’s more a matter of Lingua having it out there as both a revelation of the piece of shit Alexis is, and an extremely explicit cautionary tale to any women who might encounter him (provided he isn’t behind bars in the future)
In any case, I don’t think you should beat yourself up over the prospect of being a “martyr”. I’d say just read it if you feel ready, but you’re not obligated to. Hell, I think the reactions of the user base (myself included) pretty much sum up the severity of the allegations anyway

tfw you’ve never actually purchased any daughters albums or merch 🙏🏼

Same. I loved this album when it came out, but never actually bought a physical release of it, lol

Oh I get you Koris, it's an extremely important statement for a number of reasons and one irrelevant person on the internet reading/not reading it will barely make an iota of difference. I just feel like the more people that DO read it the better, as long as it won't directly impact their own mental health. I'll be sure to attempt putting my 'dissociative/desensitised hat' on.

Honestly I'm with Johnny here - initially thought this was all a bit paper thin. I suppose this could theoretically give it more 'weight' in a perverse way, but I'll probably never find out (because doubt I'll ever be listening to it again).
