Here's another hot take: this is just above mediocre as is The Hunter. Progdon ain't that good Don.

Opinions but Blood Mountain does nothing for me, mostly because it feels like the definition of a transitional album. While Remission is great, it doesn't really do anything as good as Leviathan or CtS

'Here's another hot take: this is just above mediocre as is The Hunter. Progdon ain't that good Don.'

Not really a hot-take, more a lame-ass lukewarm take that's been said many times before. Those albums aren't even alike, so whether they are of similar quality (in your opinion) or not, let's not lump them together. They've also progged before this one, Leviathan has prog elements so what you even talking about.

Yes, but their sound was leaning more towards sludge. Blood Mountain had elements of prog too, but they didn't go crazy with them like they did on Crack the Skye. I am only lumping them together because I believe they deserve the same score, as they are equally okay in my eyes.

Blood Mountain is transitional but that’s also why it’s so awesome, so many sick riffs but also some nice prog elements

"...is this a safe space to admit that I've never heard Leviathan in full? "

Listen to Hearts alive. It 142423454 times better than this whole album.

"My eyes, my poor sensitive eyes. What is this? The Hunter is a steaming pile of rubbish alongside this beauty."

I agree, this is better than The hunter but not by much.

It's embarrasing and I have a hard time comparing old good Mastondon with this... it's so clear ...

am I the only one who doesn't love that riff to death? it's cool but it has half the weight of Seabeast's outro or Workhorse.

It’s up there man. The Czar, The Last Baron, Hearts Alive, Roots Remain , The Wolf is Loose and Crystal Skull are some of my top don tracks.
