okay you definitely strengthened your argument with that edit addition of Lose my Breath

That song sounds closer to neo-psychadelia than most shoegaze does tbh. Something I'm not a fan of. I'd probably appreciate it more in the context of the album. But on first listen, nothing mind blowing.
Shoegaze belongs to the 90s.

I'd argue Lose my Breath is one of biggest examples of the neo-psych ---> gaze transition mbv were pulling. its weird saying 'than most shoegaze does", cause the entire genre is an extension of it. i totally feel where youre coming from i just think that youre not defining the element you dont like about it appropriately. 90s gaze is obv superior but TSA is a huge exception

The only band I see mentioned a lot is Spaceman 3. I am not sure what other neo bands you are talking about that shoegaze is an extension of. Yerself is steam is a link to shoegaze in some way
Ive always just seen the genre as an extension of The Velvet Underground, classic psychadelic rock, Sonic Youth. Dinosaur and Cocteau Twins. Perhaps I downplay Spaceman 3, I have never been too impresed with them.

The 999IQ approach is to tag bands with their influences rather than genre.

Neo-psych is a huge blanket term and technically gaze falls under it. Spacemen 3 are fucking phenomenal and can very very fairly be called the predecessors to shoegaze. its like impossible to separate that sound from 'good' and 'authentic' shoegaze imo, as anything that lacks that sound is just indie//post-rock//twinkle toe garbage with a shoegaze tag for the cool kids who have loveless tapestries. Also don't get how you don't like that style but prefer Isn't Anything to Loveless cause the former is way more spiritually connected to s3. Also how do you not absolutely love Drone Refusenik that song is incredible. im ranting

mostly rhetorical questions in there cause i feel ya, you dont like a certain sound and defining anything like that is a semantics thing. i personally love what you're describing you don't like
