Hopefully we'll be seeing the new National on that list too!

At this point nearly all of your top 100 are 5s eh Doof?

Think I've got about 90, was hoping I'd have over 100 by now but the Sput community failed me again

My top ten has changed a bit but some of them fuckers are ingrained, I know them note for note, inside out and they haven't aged a day. I'll be buggered if I'm going to get shot of 'em that quickly but Tindersticks II really is quite something.

by this album they are but you clearly see Tindersticks forged them a pretty solid blueprint

The closer of SWB is probably the best National song though and an incredible closer.

No National song will ever top Slow Show for me, too many emotions associated with that song.

None of their previous stuff really was their best for me. I feel they continue getting better and better. I can’t say SWB is better than this one, but I can see it happening possibly in the future. But title track and I’ll Still Destroy You are kinda butting heads as best National song, imo

Well I haven't heard the new one yet so it's entirely possible that you're right, but for me their older stuff, especially High Violet and Boxer, have such a strong personal connection that it will take years before I can begin to consider Sleep Well Beast in comparison to them. I enjoyed this one on the level of a 3.5 for two whole years after it was released and I've come to view it alongside those two now but clearly it was a long time coming. I will probably love SWB right off the bat on a 4.5-5 level but even then it will probably be well behind the three prior to it for quite a while.

Very true. I have such an emotional investment in this album and it came out during the best year in my life but I think if you love this album, Sleep Well Beast will not be far behind. It’s kinda as mellow as this album but more electronic. It’s incredible and I haven’t even heard complete album quality yet. I’d immediately call it AOTY but Science Fiction happened too but it’s very close between the two. I was thinking Slowdive would be it earlier this year but it’s #3 and I hate to say that but Brand New and National have made this whole year

All the Wine will always be one of my favourites, despite it being pretty basic, because it was the first I heard from them and it was such a throwback to Tindersticks, that I went Fuck, people are still making amazing music like this

All The Wine is in my personal top 10 songs

but that's entirely an emotional quirk that has little to do with the actual song and more just the time where I first heard it

Slow Show definitely means the most to me, but honestly City Middle, Carin or I'll Still Destroy You would be their best song imo, top 3 in whatever order

Ill Still Destroy You sounds like opening up heaven and just getting a little snippet. Those electronics are everything. Carin is good but it sounds like it’s meant more for this album as opposed to Sleep Well Beast. Great song but kinda outta place. Track 7 through 12 of Sleep Well Beast is probably the best stretch of songs I’ve heard in a decade or so though. It sounds like Kid A. And “Dark Side of the Gym” gives me Beach House vibes, but in the best way, got that 50’s Doo-wop Sound.

Geese of Beverly Road is probably my top national song with close competition in Gospel, Daughters of the Soho Riots, and Wasp Nest

Alligator has some of their best songs individually by as an album it never captivated me quite as much as the following three.
