Nice one Space. Something to break the dull trends in Floyd discussions.

Doesn't matter to me at all. I can't force myself to feel how everyone else feels about it ya know?

I just thought it was turd clim. I went into it with an open mind as well. This on the other hand blew me away straight from the off.

Maybe I need to listen to this more but the title track is just about the most overrated thing ever. Shine on is the only song(s) I really love from this. An excellent album in its own right, but far from Floyd's best material (Piper, Meddle, Dark Side)

They're very different albums. I'll do my best to dissect them:
-Darkside is pretty much an acid trip conceived in the most cerebral manner. It's a "smart acid trip", if you will. Every piece of it serves a given purpose. While it's not necessarily their best, the case can be made for it being their most cohesive.
-WYWH is pretty much an ode to Syd Barrett (Floyd fans can feel free to correct me here). It features an epic split in two with three tracks sandwiched in between. Of the big 3, the case can be made for it having the best "sandwich effect", in contrast to the brief-yet-sweet "Pigs on the Wing" tracks on Animals which bookend the three epic tracks therein.

Jamie I was kidding, everything on this album is perfect
and Dark Side is the best album of all time, all it took me was a 2 gram blunt and an immersive first listen to realize that

I see em as.
Darkside is the exploration of madness through various subjects including Syd.
This is that yet again but on a more personal level with an ode to Syd the band and demonstrating the frustrations they have
with the record industry.

That seems about right Zak. Welcome to the Machine definitely displays that frustration.

nice dissection Danny, but both albums have way more to em in my eyes:
Dark Side has little to do with drugs imo, its more about the decent into madness that we fall into due to our human experience and the pressures of society. Each song is like the outward stimuli of life that burden us all, it is literally IMPOSSIBLE for any song on DSOTM to not relate to you. It was spawned by Syd Barret's accelerated version of this.
WYWH is an ode to Syd, but its also much more than this. Its Floyd at an awkward time; they succeeded at mutiny over Syd and without their leader they became easily one of the biggest bands of their times. The songs are about the regret, shame, and pressures of the music industry and pretty much sum up what I'd expect them to feel like after all that they went through
