Racism is not the root" ...because the 45 odd years between now and the end of it (at least in theory) is no where near long enough to reverse it's damaging effects. White folk got a 400 year head start on black folk.
People like to say things like "white folk got a 400 year head start" but no historian takes a claim like that seriously. History is a lot more complex and confusing than that, virtually no person can trace their ancestry back to entirely privilege or entirely disadvantaged situations like slavery.
To be clear, i'm not denying some disadvantage exists for african americans in general. I'm just saying, everyone faces adversity in life, and in their family trees history, except a tiny amount of insanely lucky people, the discrimination against blacks is greatly exaggerated TODAY (KEY WORD) and for the past 20 years, people want to just look at income statistics and a few token white-on-black violence cases, and lazily chalk it up to discrimination that hasn't existed for 50+years.
Basically everything you said is true of Irish/Jews/Italians/Japanese etc. but they have no similar situation today to black americans, one major reason is because they identify as Americans not Irish-American/Jewish-Americans/Japanese-Americans and don't refuse to assimilate into the culture because they think its 'a white supremacist culture'. The problem is blacks are shooting themselves in the foot to an extent, and most of them seem to play the blame game and are needlessly divisive more than any race in the US politically, and anyone pointing that out is somehow called a racist and ignored. While ramifications from slavery exist, I really doubt its as harmful as the mentality that assimilating into US culture is betraying your African roots, which is like a catch phrase in rap.
I'm not aware of any legal lynchings in the 70s...

It's not overcompensation; how can you overcompensate for something as horrific as slavery, cold-blooded hate crimes, and segregation/discrimination?
....we turn our heads and keep repeating past mistakes.
In what way are we repeating past mistakes?
You overcompensate by asking everyone to feel like a victim or to feel guilty about a history that most people living in this country had nothing to do with. You overcompensate by inferring that white people got to where they are in the US because of rigging the system, and continually rigging the system, when its obviously bullshit.
please, don't be vague. examples?
Affirmative Action. Again, no one owes anyone anything because of the past. I know Affirmative Action doesn't make up for the situation of minorities that are supposedly 'historically disenfranchised', what it does do is discriminate against white people, though, to the benefit of minorities. It's ironic because this is the same type of race-based discrimination you are supposidely concerned about, but any time someone puts forth a superficial argument about history 'look! heres a picture of a black guy in chains next to a white slave owner! you owe me!', you conveniently forget you are now being discriminatory yourself.
lets make a PNWI forum for this
