Yeah, for sure. The Arch-viles scared the shit outta me as a kid.
At some point, someone from the ZDoom community released all new wads that essentially recreated the first three worlds of Doom (Knee Deep, Shores of Hell, Inferno) with the new enemies and the addition of the super shotgun. It was neat seeing familiar levels and layouts with new enemies. I think they made some minor level improvements, too, but I can't be sure.
Either way, you're right, the level design in Doom II was uninspired, and that final boss stage was especially weak. Nothing compares to the Cyberdemon fight from original Doom.

Lol, think I also played Doom as a kid (on PS1) before I played Pokemon, something seems wrong about that now. 'Nothing compares to the Cyberdemon fight from original Doom.' (2) - literally terrifying when I was young, no idea what I thought would happen, but it genuinely filled me with dread.

If I were arsed to make a 'favorite video games of all time' list, Doom would easily be in the Top 10, maybe even Top 5. Thought more so than any other form of art/media (movies, music, whatever), my preference for video games remains stoic and almost entirely rooted in nostalgia. Just can't get into 'new' games nowadays. My most cherished are still things like Doom, Pokemon Red, Link to the Past, Final Fantasy (IV and VI especially), Super Mario RPG, Earthbound, Crono Trigger, Zombies Ate My Neighbors, Mega Man X, things like that.
I did rock the fuck out off Mortal Kombat 9 when it came out, though. (Maybe 2011?) Even wrote an extensive guide on Johnny Cage's character. That's probably the most recent game I've played for any length of time, though. Anything thereafter I could never get "into."

For me it's all about Doom, Pokemon, old school Championship Manager (before it became FM), Sonic and Timesplitters. I've loved things since, but those old franchises really give me the nostalgia buzz. In fact my gaming-related enjoyment is so entrenched in nostalgia that new franchises barely get a look in.

Sonic was a good one, too.
Rollercoaster Tycoon was another game that I was hooked on as a little kid. Hours and hours and hours spent on that game.

Closest thing to replicating that in the 'modern' day is Fallout, but I guess Fallout 3/NV aren't even considered 'new' anymore - playing Fallout 4 gave me the same nostalgia buzz though, despite some game-play deficiencies.

This with the hunter is his lowest moment. Even last 2 albums are better. Can't choose between Leviathan and Blood montain as their top.

At end of the day its Blood Mountain who ages better and endures the most ;)

That is a lol take. Their last two albums are whack compared to this. Blood Mountain and Leviathan also both rule tho

Blood Mountain blows this out the window tbh, but it still holds up pretty well.
Am in the minority with qwenta here, but Emperor of Sand at its best gives this a run for its money sometimes

I love this band. This, Blood Mountain and Leviathan are 3 rock solid beasts of their own tbh
Big fan of all Emperor of Sand as well...although I don't get why Show Yourself is on it :s

My eyes, my poor sensitive eyes. What is this? The Hunter is a steaming pile of rubbish alongside this beauty.

Yes, man

...is this a safe space to admit that I've never heard Leviathan in full?

Blood Mountain is probably better than this but yeah calling the Hunter or their last album better is weird
