Not really heard anyone claim Souvlaki was a groundbreaking album, particularly. Like, this came out in 91 and is generally considered the zenith of the genre.

Souvlaki's an album I really got into during some teenage love drama so it always sounds poignant and heartbreaking to me to this day haha

"Not really heard anyone claim Souvlaki was a groundbreaking album" Most people list it is as one of the most important shoegaze albums. Eno helps give it character but a lot of the time its just their early sound with more of a focus on composition.

@Souce Swerevedriver are awesome yeah. Flying Saucer Attack are another interesting shoegaze band deserving of more attention.

"one day you'll be like damn first track is one of the weakest and its still perfect"

I don't doubt you, but I just don't see that happening anytime soon

Also in regards to Souvlaki, I don't really like that album either, my guess for why on that is the dream pop elements

Further is probably their worst starting point, but I'd say its their most interesting.

I read that MBV's debut started the shoegaze genre, is it more or less accessible than this

ughhh depends on what you've been exposed to most of your listening life. If you like early or lo-fi noise rock/punk like Dinosaur and Missions of Burma, you would probably prefer it.

Also You Made Me Realise is older, and I'd say thats the first definative shoegaze recording.
