Almost forgot how good the opening riff on the moor is here

Where has this been all my life? I knew from about 4 minutes in to my first play-through I was going to love this & then it was the gift that kept on giving. The Moor is an amazing opener. This album shouldn't blend together so beautifully given all the stylistic changes throughout but it just does.

This is special.

Ok this is REALLY special, holy shit I'm like THIS close to 5ing it after 3 days. How do they blend heavy with such delicate beauty so well... oh man... this is everything I've ever wanted to hear without knowing it.

I realise one cares, I'm just writing down my unfiltered thoughts anyway...

Which Opeth album is most like this one... Blackwater Park maybe? I heard Damnation which was good (but different).

ghost reveries, while not as cohesive as some of their other stuff, is loaded with killer tracks too

Ghost Reveries is so multi-layered and diverse, it's amazing. I love that thing.

I actually think it's perfectly coherent up until Harlequin Forest (which happens to be my favorite), just after that it sorta kinda falls apart, even though I still love the last 3 tracks for what they're worth (Isolation Years in particular).

I don't think so tbh, Harlequin Forest for instance is easily one of their most atmospheric songs imo. It's just a different kind of atmosphere, not as nature based anymore compared to the things they did before.

"Ye I barely listen to the last 3 tracks"

Hours of Wealth and Isolation Years are two of the standout tracks on Ghost Reveries though.

Also the atmosphere on Ghost Reveries is probably second only to MAYH for me.

Maybe third after Morningrise actually but still

Isolation Years is top 5 Opeth for me, actually. One of my all time favorite songs

It's probably my favorite ballad by them, and they have a lot of great ones so there's that.
