Took me a few listens to gather my thoughts on this. After things settled I came to the realization I'm really not crazy about this at all. It sounds phoned in.

I don't know man, it's just different. The grit and chaos are still there but I think probably for the first time in their career, they've backgrounded those elements. So I can totally see why that would turn some people off but this is far from "phoned in" imo.

They walk over to the rim of the pit and begin to swing their guitars on large chains. With the lines through it and playing in the hole, they walk backward down it, as their rhythmic strings make strange sounds as they bounce back and forth.
It's like fucking bananas, I don't know... I got huge apathy from the American audiences, you can play, and they're like, 'Fuck this band, we don't like you, fuck you. Forget about fucking playing here. There's no place for you here.'
Every good band has given in to capitalism at one point or another. They've been subjected to the pressures and will-power of capital. Being a band, we've reached out and made ourselves useful. We're able to produce and distribute records, and be able to tour the world for free. We're able to monetize our work. I think that's great, but I'm more concerned with whether you'll take it, and whether it's long term. I see people getting in touch and being like, 'Well fuck you guys.' For me, the cause isn't just about making an album or a record, it's about changing the world.
Every good band has given in to capitalism. This is part of what keeps you looking for your own thing. You can never truly be a free society without making sacrifices. Some people are willing to keep those sacrifices secret, others will tell the world about it. And you know what? Sometimes those things even work well for society at large.

This is one of those albums where I think people like the "idea" of the music, rather than the music itself. If that makes sense. Idk I love their other stuff, so maybe this'll grow on me.
