Geese forever reigns supreme
"the national hipsters have gone too far this time" and what the hell does this even mean
|
| |
the verses of "mr. november" go so hard tho

I certainly don't love Mr. November as much as I did back when but it's still the perfect send off for this record, and I've nothing but great fucking memories attached to that song, which I think just reinforces it's sentiment

How can you say "the national hipsters have gone too far this time" and then say "im coming around to the idea slipping husband is a top 5 national song, all their top 5 are from sad songs, this and boxer" in the same comment

Because their last four albums are monotonously boring to sit through?

^ they each have fantastic tracks (maybe not most recent) but have so little variation as a whole album
|
| |
I like that the lighting and camera angle on this album cover sort of makes it look like the guy's having that ol' secret meeting in his head. or something idk secret meeting always seemed like the perfect introduction vis-a-vis the mood-setting of the album cover

I can understand that take sint but you're the only National hipster(s) here then

HV and SWB both have very clear variation, and TWFM is such a downer of a mood piece that calling it out for lack of variation is in the same ballpark as calling slowcore records languid (plus it has a couple of upbeat tracks anyway, so)

Yeah, that's why TWFM is the worst offender of em all. What an absolute slog lol

trouble will find me (2013): called out & ultimately cancelled
|

don't really have anything to add on Trouble that wasn't in my users list AOTD blurb, but y'all get so wound up around the same moot points on that one

like it being not as important as it thinks it is?
|
| |
I just realized that probably my favorite song on TWFM is "sea of love" and probably on HV "terrible love"/"bloodbuzz ohio" in addition to this "mr. november" stuff so maybe I like fast anthemic national more than subtle-ish national. TWFM is pretty good tho, good songs all over a couple duds
|
| |
lol sona guessing you did not love the new one?
"like it being not as important as it thinks it is?"
album is an effortpost yes
|
| |
yeah I wasnt a fan of the new one so much. thought that song about the lady and where her head is at or whatever was good. "where's your head at" i think it's called. it's by basement jaxx. haha just joshing but yeah that song is pretty cool but nah yeah it's a p boring album
|
| |
yeah I enjoyed that track too lol, thought it was cute how that dude matt berninger got a feature spot on it. they must be pretty popular ig

Johnny I don't think I ever told you how much I loved that write up of yours, sums up for the most part how I feel about this band
