Hmm, well winter is essential for a lot of black metal albums, but yeah.

Summer jams are the best.

Haha, I can imagine that.

I tried Paysage d'Hiver before, it was nice but not the same. Albums like Nacht and Kerker definitely work though.

there's some bm that works in the fall (Drudkh springs to mind) but in the summer it just doesn't do it for me. summer's all about sludge and stoner doom

Absolutely, I've been jamming a lot of Sleep, Kyuss and other stuff. Thou/The Body's album has also been a nice jam.

I've said this so much within the past few weeks, but why does it matter what time of year it is for you guys to enjoy an album?

I mean I understand certain settings are better for certain albums, but I just don't get that.

Guess it resonates better when your environment around you is similar to the music tone or themes. If an album is explicitly about winter and shit I would have a tough time having an immersive listening experience in the summer. Stoner rock also feels more lax and bright so it works better in the summer. Don't really follow those guidelines much myself, but I do understand the thought process behind it

I honestly couldn't give you a good answer to that question, Hawks. Cause you're right, it really shouldn't matter, but I've just come to associate certain atmospheres with different seasons, especially when it comes to metal.

It really should matter though. When a band/artist goes to great lengths to create a specific atmosphere you're sort of doing an injustice if you can say that you honestly don't appreciate it more in the kind of environment that best suits it and that's closest to what the artist had in mind when creating it.

You could also argue, though, that music shouldn't need to rely on a particular atmosphere or environment in order to be compelling. Shouldn't a piece of music be able to take you to the same place regardless of where or when you're listening to it?

Not so much if your surroundings completely contradict it. It's always going to have an affect.

Idk it doesn't matter to me the setting if I like an album I like it, I'm not just gonna hate this album just because it's summer and not the right time of year. That's stupid to me.

For me it's never that extreme... Like when I tried listening to Immortal I enjoyed in significantly less than I do in the winter, but I still thought it was good.

That's what I mean I could jam Coldworld right now and the weather would have no effect on how much I dig it.

Pretty much this. The season just adds something to the music for me so that they're more special, but are still amazing at anytime.

Of course you're not gonna hate it but if you have a lots different kinds of music some genres/albums are going to be more appealing in different seasons.

For example, I hardly ever feel like listening to this (or Opeth as a whole) in the summer so I just don't listen to it during that season because I have loads of other music that appeals to me much more during the summer season.

Yeah I can def understand that. I'm just saying for me it makes no difference.

Some people will ONLY listen to an album if it's in the right setting, just saying that's not the case with me. :]

Yeah, Opeth can be enjoyed anytime of the year; however, bands like Opeth, Agalloch, and most BM are significantly better in Autumn or during cold rainy days.
