The first two Deftones albums are indeed like the first two Radiohead albums. The first one is solid but unremarkable, and the second is an early masterpiece that serves as a stepping stone towards their real classic (White Pony/OKC).

Yes. Though i don't view neither Around The Fur nor The Bends as early masterpieces. They are kinda boring tbh except for some highlights. Both were trying to find the individual bands' true style

Both ATF and The Bends are undeniably excellent even if the bands' sound was still in development
Can see your point though

AtF and The Bends are great but everything both bands did afterward are superior. Same with The National's second album.

Oh god literally nothing compares to everything after The Bends. TB is great but Kid A makes it seem like child’s play.

Agreed, though I'll never understand why people love Kid A so much
It's fantastic but nowhere near their best...OK Computer and In Rainbows outclass it so hard

Nothing like a Radiohead discussion underneath a Deftones album (Y)

Btw while Around The Fur is not exactly my 'tones jam, Dai the Flu is madly overlooked.
That song proved to be very indicative to where they were starting to go next. Also, it gives me dem feels man

Dai is great, & I frankly feel sorry for people who can't enjoy the simple but superb pleasures of ATF & The Bends, despite whatever glories each band achieved afterward

I'm starting to warm up more to this record. P/T is decent, Doomed User is basically this albums' Poltergeist (which is fucking rifftastic), Hearts/Wires is an atmospheric SNW song, (L)MIRL has a nice tone, Gore is somewhat similar to Doomed User in asthetics (thus awesome) and Phantom Bride and Rubicon are beautiful.
Better production could have truely benefited this so much

Ya, I still think it's funny how they delayed the shit out of this because the "mix wasn't right" and then they put it out and it's probably the record in their entire discography with the most vocal fan reaction against the mix.
All that aside though, this record is special to me for a couple of reasons so I don't even really care anymore. If nothing else the mix just further distinguishes it from the last few

Agreed ocean. Hearts/Wires and the last two songs are the best on here imo
The production and mixing aren't that bad, like I'd take it over the sound of Death Magnetic or Californication any day. They are the weakest part of this tho, like why not just repeat how KNY sounded.

Someone asks siri which is the best deftones album
|
| |
According to her the best radiohead is in rainbows, which I'm partially agree but I take ok computer any day.

You guys gotta watch these "What is the best album by x" videos by theneedledrop, where he does exactly that. Highly entertaining

Yes That's why I made the comment. his reaction on the dark side of the moon is hilarious

So if DSOTM is not floyd's best album for melonhead then which one? I think it's the wall but I'm not sure.
