@manfromspace

The only reason im in this thread more than anyone is cuz im on the site more and this is literally the only active hip hop album on the entire site that is actually somewhat good.

How is race a relevant topic today, to the point that raps that went stale in the mid 90s need to be repeated verbatim?

Answer: it's not.All things considered, its a relatively minor issue in the western world and it's just an edgy topic that get's people interested. It legitimately pisses off black people and lets corny white people dick ride them.

Kendrick's not actually worried about solving racism like emcees of the past, or he wouldn't of signed to the most racist hip hop label there is, hes just riding a popular wave and rambling on about the banal hot-topic of the moment.

@Gwyn

you don't have to specifically mention white people to echo and romanticize a racist life philosophy. One of the main weapons the elite use to disguise issues of classicism has always been to create racial division and hatred, and you are kidding yourself if you don't think INterscope Records hasn't been doing that, and is still doing that.

I never said racism doesn't exist, it's just not worth mentioning in every rap song you ever make. how many raps have you heard about racism and how many raps have you heard about the invasion of Syria? Let's not pretend it's being addressed because it's a crucial issue, its being addressed because its seen as cool, hip and edgy.

"It legitimately pisses off black people and lets corny white people dick ride them."

that is so ignorant. racism is not just a "edgy" subject, it's a real conflict that's effecting lives in a massively negative way across the world, not just in the United States. also when you compare the instability in Syria to racism in America and say that one issue is "minor" compared to the other, it's extremely arbitrary

sorry but you asked for it^

I specifically qualified my statement and said: racism isn't a crucial life-or-death issue in the western world, not that its not an issue anywhere, and not that its not a signifcant issue at all in the US. It's just being overblown, severely so.

I never said either the Syria War or racism in US was a minor issue per se. I said 99/100 modern day political rap songs are about race, while you guys are pretending people like Kendrick are addressing issues based on their need for the public to be aware of them.

All three of his releases so far have basically been about race, even I, its like, find something else to talk about... it just gets old turning on CNN "RACE IS RACISM BLAH RUN!", Fox news "thats not racism shut up!", comedy central "blah blah blah race joke haha", flippin on the radio "WHITE MAN RACISM FUK DAT", opening the newspaper "somone called obama a racist but is actually a racist themselves!", then getting on sputnik, both in the political and music section, to see its all being praised as avant-garde intellectualism.

rappers like Kendrick grew up with the racism of the western world and specifically of the US and it still is a huge part of being black and growing up there today, so of course it's still going to be a big and relevant issue in the music these artists create. ignorance like this is why it still needs to be addressed

In what way? Quiet a lot of people try pretty hard to find racism where there isn't any, but it's still an issue that has to be addressed, no matter how small the occassion is.

Now I don't believe eliminating it (like a lot of rappers want) is going to be anywhere near possible until a fairly distant future, but regardless.

rappers write songs about race because they have first hand experience with it, isn't that obvious to you? I like Kendrick's rapping because his material is especially powerful to me and I don't feel exhausted by the subject matter. and race is still a major issue, it's not overblown at all

Not sure if people are purposely straw manning me or if i misspoke

I never denied racism exists or that it's a big issue or that it is worthy of being rapped about, some of my all time favorite rap songs are about racism, what I mean by it being overblown is its simply just not worthy of making 99/100 political rap songs about, and thats just my opinion as a white dude, not saying this is objective fact or anything, I just don't think his album is going to be that great. He's no immortal technique yadidimean?

"and thats just my opinion as a white dude"

can't imagine how anyone would think this would help them in a debate on racism

white dudes cant have opinions about racism brehs

uh, yes, yes they can. any one can have 'opinion's on racism.

what white people cannot be is the victim of racism in any area where they are not a minority (power-wise)

also having an 'opinion' on racism isnt limited to whether or not you think its 'good' or not, its a very intricate sociological topic that can be explored and understood from tonnes of perspectives.
