i highly doubt it will be i was really disappointed when i heard this after being a big fan of Sec. 80.when this first came out i listened to it for about a month then lost all interest in hearing it again tho i do go back from time to time & listen to Sec. 80.been holding of on listening to all the new singles from the up coming album so i can at least get a couple of enjoyable listens from it.

It could definitely be better than this. Kendrick is an awesome rapper and this isn't the best he's had to offer so far and won't be better than everything he releases from now on either
|

Idk man, I think this will definitely be looked at as his masterpiece but the new album will most likely get a good deal of acclaim. I'm guessing it'll be more left-field than this (which would be the smart thing to do at this point in his career) so it'll probably be preferred by the people in that crowd.
After that though, tbh, it'll probably be downhill from there, at least in the eyes of the hip-hop community. I don't see him pulling Roots-like consistency

^ based on what?
|

Speculation?
Or were you referring to the "left-field" portion? Because that should be obvious

new kanye is not gonna be a jam based on anything he's done lately. But 2015 is gonna be pretty good regardless.

All Day is sweet and Wolves sounded promising, not keen on Only One though. I'm not sure if Kendrick can top this, I'm skeptical.

predicting the new album will be typical swag bullshit and/or superficial black nationalism / white guilt subject matter, with overproduced beats made for people who have almost no interest traditional boom bap hip hop, and a flow that encourages the listener to not pay attention to how verbose his lyrics are, and how he takes an entire song to express a concept as simple as "did it cuz peer pressure yo".
man this site is getting lame, you guys haven't talked about virtually a single other hip hop album since this overrated good-only-for-mainstream shit came out two years ago since I joined the site.

"superficial black nationalism / white guilt subject matter"
His latest song was the exact opposite of this

that being said the Colbert song was cool, I was incredibly cheesy and cringe worthy.
i just doubt hes going to be able to outdo the Colbert song in any way, im almost sure his subject matter will never surpass anything but addressing race over and over and over - the most banal topic in rap today, hell they beat the topic to death by 1995...

no it wasn't the exact opposite, just cuz he took a stand on the stupidity of gang banging and how hypocritical it is for gang bangers to talk about the destruction of black society, doesn't mean he doesn't parrot the quintessential white envy/guilt talking points earlier in the song.
you casual hip hop fans need to stop tolerating music that is insulting your race, or any race for that matter.
|
| |
Race is still a very relevant topic today and I don't see anyone on this site still talking about this album as much as you

how does he insult other people's race? he's black and proud of it, and there's nothing wrong with that. in fact, I appreciate that aspect of him

I don't think you understood the lyrics
that or you just didn't 2 and 2 together with the grander picture he wanted to make
I don't even like the song all that much but I saw it pretty much immediately
Besides even if what you say is true (which it isn't; He never even specifically mentioned "white people" in the first verse), he wanted to establish that he was proud of his genetic heritage - I'm very openly against the excessive sensibility of people these days regarding these topics (Speaking as mixed race individual) but if you legit believe racism doesn't exist at all you need help
