When you hear people or journos say how it’s bad for bands to release a lot of material fairly quickly, you look back to this period and many bands were pumping out at least an album a year. The ridiculous amount of touring bands have to do to make ends meet doesn’t help.

yea but albums back then were 8-10 tracks, 40-50 min. a double LP was an EVENT.

Now you have 15-25 track albums, 60-90 min. long. Shit's bloated.

Beatles' evolution in ~5 years is crazy to me. I blame LSD.

I've done a lot of upgrades to my audio equipment - can anyone else hear some real weird clangs/bells/w/e in the background of Lord Of This World? At 29-30 seconds, there's the loudest example.

That isn't exactly 'standard' though, sure some artists will do that but it is still a relatively small % in my experience. Especially re the no. of tracks. Length will often (obviously) vary massively between genres.

Best three tunes are incredible, like most early Sabbath albums...the rest gets to be a tiny bit of a chore, their most samey album of the first six

i think it's pretty consistent, actually. the hard tracks go so hard that the slow tracks feel almost necessary for an early 70's audience, i think.

My least favorite Early Sabbath is definitely SBS. Kinda corny at times, not my thing.

??? Only Embryo and After Forever are below the standard of the rest here (and even then After Forever is a super fine regular Sabbath track).

SBS is my favourite, I don't mind the corniness. Just has the tunes

we agree Doof, I rate this as the weakest of the first 6, although way higher than 3.5 and get crushed for it, I think it is too short could have squeezed in another tune

Haha nice!

I like my Sabbath dirty and gritty whereas SBS is very polished and clean. Still amazing obviously.

I don't think there's a stronger end to any album ever than the outro to Into The Void. It's pure skullfucking magic.
