this is better than I thought it was going to be. different but i like it when bands progress. less proggy/techy, sure, but it isn't pop.

gotta bring this up at any opportunity because it's the funniest thing ever
"Lars and Kirk were very into abstract art, pretending they were gay. I think they knew it bugged me. It was a statement around all that. I love art, but not for the sake of shocking others. I think the cover of Load was just a piss-take around all that. I just went along with the make-up and all of this crazy, stupid shit that they felt they needed to do."- James Hetfield
just guys being dudes

you know this isn't bad! kind of dig it. at least half of it. like yeah obviously it's not megadeth and is it's own thing. but when it's taken on it's own it's a p good dark alt rock album. way too long though. dave is delivering a legit good singing performance with some great vocal melodies. some catchy tunes! also dig the country twang it has in parts. i don't really get why some hate it so much unless they just really hate radio rock. far from laughably bad like some metallica of the same era. an admirable experiment from two thrash geniuses in mustaine and friedman to make a mainstream rock album. on that term i dig it and respect it.
i'll be there for you is such a rocking ballad, my fav here. insomnia, prince of darkness, crush em, wanderlust are all fun ass songs. don't mind breadline or the closer duo either.

what I've realized is that a fucking hate the production of this. the guitar tone is so shitty. the live versions of songs like "breadline" are infinitely better because they have the punch of their normal guitar/drum tone.

idk i didn't get that but also it helps that it's a hard rock album and not thrash so i don't really care about the intricacies lol

bro listen to wanderlust. what the FUCK is that guitar tone. at the very beginning. it legitimately sounds like they played thru a $50 1x10 practice amp that someone puked in. I know because in my band, our fuckass bassist got drunk and thought our practice amp was a trashcan so he puked into it. we played thru it the next day and it sounded like WANDERLUST.

i mean that's a clear stylistic choice for atmosphere lol
if you don't like it that's fine but that was the intention

yeah it’s a style choice but it’s a bad choice imo. I wanna hear what their thought process was. My guess is they wanted to use some sort of distortion that wasn’t too heavy to alienate rock listeners.
