Past three Deftones albums have done very little for me.

Similar to the private music thread I don’t see a lot of arguing here just a lot of thoughtful discussion which is nice considering the site is near death

It is funny that I’ve noticed all the 3 boys have said their favorite track is the closer and that’s easily the most by the numbers converge track on here. It may be my least favorite track (it still rules)

It's also my favorite, while not amazing it's the one with the nicer riffs and sections

>If this was a "No name band" i think it would be panned as just another core band, if anything the mantle of Converge is this things saving grace and probably one of the things keeping critics from wobbling
totally disagree, because it sounds notably different than 99% of whatever constitutes ‘core’ these days, especially metalcore. if anything, they stand out by just being themselves. there are an equal amount of people who are desperate to shit on legacy bands, so that argument doesn’t wash for me. remember when Melvins were almost universally loved? that changed very quickly, and their ‘name’ and reputation did nothing to shield them. same with Godflesh to an extent, they got some very average reviews for their ‘comeback’ albums, despite them being good imo.

I remember post self getting reviewed poorly and it might be my second favorite godflesh record

Idk, this is my last thought on the whole “is this mid” discourse, the last record they put out (despite still being very good imo) got a lot of shit for not sounding anything like their other records… now they drop a “back to basics” kind of record, idk after Bloodmoon this is pretty much exactly what I wanted. I want insane riffs, Ben to beat the shit out of his kit, and lyrics that make me sad and think about life and stuff
And this album has it all.
And at this point I’m very convinced that they’re gonna drop something else relatively soon. They said they had over 20 tracks written, and they played 2 new songs the entire last year, one ended up being We Were Never the Same, the other is not on the record at all. They didn’t rename it, they didn’t strip it for parts and use the ideas elsewhere, it’s a whole ass song that’s not on the album. I’ve never seen a band play a song that literally never sees the light of day in any form… I’m sure it happens but I just don’t see these guys doing something like that.

@Wildcardbutchesss If they make this into a two parter or at least release some sort of follow up that would be so sick.

I want nothing more than for another 30 minute ripper by the end of the year… that might be hoping for too much but I wouldn’t be surprised if we got a followup EP Beautiful Ruin style, hopefully a little longer than that though considering it’s like 5 mins lol

Yeah that’s what I’m thinking too man. We’re gonna get another record in the next year or two.

I really really hope so. I loved Bloodmoon, but damn near ten years since the last proper Converge album, man that’s just too long. I was fresh out of high school when The Dusk In Us dropped and now im pushing 30, and these guys aren’t getting any younger either…
Really hoping they strike while the irons hot, the album seems like it’s largely well received.

Words really fail to describe how much this band means to me. I think when people say shit like “your music saved my life!!” it’s kinda corny and overly dramatic… but these guys have seen me through some rough times.
I really hope they have their own headlining tour lined up later this year. As cool as this Poison the Well tour looks, I’m not making the drive to just see Converge support. I really wish they were coming through my neck of the woods though because that is one sick lineup.

I think the core question here is "did you want Converge to make another Converge record?" some people wanted more than that. for some, that's everything they could've asked for. all in the eye of the beholder.
