"Honestly crazy to be in 2025 and Hayley Williams is the one making both personal and politically relevant pop music while Taylor is very clearly headed to another legendary billionaire crashout of the sort that is becoming too common on this stupid decade."

not to call u out but how is this in any way shape or form surprising 😭 u thought taylor was gonna make political music? u thought hayley would never talk politics? or that taylor was mentally stable and mature

@Asdfp277: maybe I should have made the time frame I had in mind clearer, but basically, never really hoped Taylor would make politically engaging stuff - it's just that I don't think anyone could have imagined her as an icon of american's currently deteriorating culture. she used to be a girl making heartfelt pop/country pop for sad white girls with maybe a tinge of liberal feminism.

As for Hayley, frankly I feel until the beginning of her solo career I was never impressed with her stuff from a political perspective because she didn't seem too far from Taylor. She was the typical pick me rocker grrl, what with writing pretty misogynistic lyrics for one of their biggest hits and taking a while to see her grooming by a 10+ years older shithead for what it was.

Like, yes, Paramore has become very good at tackling what one review here smartly called "millenial malaise", but it actually took quite some time of their career to get there, especially because Hayley had to go through lenghts of introspection that Taylor is clearly incapable of.

Also, singing about the symbolic and literal violence of the south on national TV in times of explicit american fascism and many popular figures complying in advance feels significantly beyond any other political gesture of hers.

well, i guess maybe hayley is in my online orbit more often than for most, so to me its surprising someone would think she wouldn't be making political statements, when at least since bne-era paramore she's been vocal about stuff

as for taylor, i think since the beginning she's been remarkably and clinically apolitical, with all white-liberal-feminism associations spurred by the way her fanbase acted online more than anything taylor said or did. still today, at most she takes turns making dogwhistles that either side of the political spectrum can project their beliefs onto, although more recently the ratio seems more skewed towards the right

I mean none of them lmao

This Is Why is my favorite of their albums tho, but a lot of older fans don’t seem to love it much. I literally just got into them the last few years.

After Laughter is probably my second favorite, self titled is an absolute mess and not one I care for at all. Brand New Eyes feels like a natural progression and just a more mature take on their first two records which are pretty much just straightforward pop punk/ pop rock. I mean you’ve surely heard at least Misery Business right? That’s a good example of what most of those early records sound like.

Idk fuck it, my favorite song of theirs is probably Figure 8. Chorus bangs, it’s got some fun guitar parts, bass is grooving along.

Here actually I almost forgot her solo material, Parachute is a great track: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=3ctZ0MuCFuk
