Scoot and DrMaximus, Paul Simon's release from last year fits the discussion you guys are having

I was hyped af reading all of u guys, but it's a 3-3.5 max after a couple listens. However, And nothing is forever is an amazing song.

feels like it honestly might be their bleakest since Pornog, which ain't quite "the mood" for me at the moment - or maybe more accurately, it is the mood which is why i find it hard to just casually listen to right now
thing certainly got me revisiting Kiss Me Kiss Me Kiss Me & a few others of their pretty routinely now though

And nothing is forever doesn't get mentioned enough! Love that track, probably my favourite alongside Endsong

I find the hate for Drone:Nodrone really funny, it's maybe my favorite cut atm. Can't get enough of that bass sound. Not a bad song on this thing either.

The album needed a track like Drone

see i kinda agree on paper but drone itself in execution was not the right song for the job whatsoever

I love the intro and it sort of just about holds itself together after that - I like it

Drone is so fun, it feels right in place in that early 90s era for them. I really wouldn't say there is a weak track here, my only issue that I still have rolling around in my head is the album is a little safe and a little short but those are my only hangups.
Also I'm sure I've heard them play at least two of these songs live before so some of this isn't actually new material per se.

yeah i mean its an unfair thing to expect at this point in their career anything that really pushes them anywhere new, but i do kinda agree that its on the safe side. theres nothing here they havent done before save maybe warsong and that does kinda keep it out of their s tier for me

My only qualm if it could even be called one is the track ordering. The potential for slightly better cohesion is right there with some minor adjustments and IMO it flows much better as (1) Alone (2) And Nothing Is Forever (3) I Can Never Say Goodbye (4) Warsong (5) Drone:Nodrone (6) All I Ever Am (7) A Fragile Thing (8) Endsong.
Still, not really a complaint just a preference I guess.

oh yeah the flow is a little janky too. my running is:
1. alone
2. all i ever am
3. a fragile thing
4. warsong
5. it can never be the same (from cureation but trimmed so it sounds like a studio version)
6. i can never say goodbye
7. and nothing is forever
8. endsong

Its just a nitpick, spiritually it's a 5. I really wasn't expecting new material at all after 16 years.

I would like this so much less with All I Ever Am as track 2 I gotta be honest lmao

smth about the faster rhythmic feel hits so janky where it is in the running for me, ditto and nothings immersive open flowery-ness, and the types of songs they are j gel better for me swapped like that, but also i do know you dont like that song lol

I think it's just janky wherever you place it in the tracklist honestly. just an awkward sounding song
|

All I Ever Am sounds fine in the penultimate slot tbh, would move A Fragile Thing to the #2 slot and ditch And Nothing (or at least every chamber instrument featured on it) entirely

The first two songs for me are in perfect order because they really remind me of a ‘dark night of the soul’ followed by a ‘waking up to reality and it’s ok’ feeling.
Dunno, one of my favourite track placings of the year tbh.
Ploughing into abject darkness could have been the play…but I prefer a little light early, second song sounds like a new day etc

I’d say this is probably my favourite album in terms of sequencing this year, every intro follows the previous song so well, good contrast.
For a dark and slow album a few moments of light and pep arrive perfectly on cue.
It’s not rocket science broflowskis.
