So much for the "Eminem has lived past his sell-by date." The Sputnikmusic community is filled with "staff" who pass off hyperbole as a review so as to gain more followers, only to walk back what they say to get back in good graces. If you were entertained by Eminem as a youth, you had a penchant for enjoying the shortcomings of others. Aka you have a small intellect.
|
| |
And another thing! Let me sum up the Sputnik community in a different way: Crybaby whiners who, when they don't get their favorite album part 2, they throw a hissy fit. Nothin but snobs & complainers round here, & SOME decent people.

this whole slim shady storyline is lame to me, most of the beats sound the exact same, its all boring as fuck
i need interesting beats
i dont care about eminems broken ass life
i just want good bangers
this whole shtick about having the persona that might or might not actually say what you think deep down is really pathetic cause it doesn't go anywhere except trying to drum up attention
hes so wrapped up in what people think about him and current culture war shit and whatever, its all hyperlame, i don't think he has anything interesting to say about it
yeah people are too sensitive or whatever wow what a revelation
the self-reflection on the album doesn't really feel earned
hes just tearing himself down for the sake of it
its not interesting
like in concept i actually kinda like the idea of trying to cancel yourself by just being the most offensive evil guy you can but he doesn't go far enough for it to really hit for me.
either go fully concept and stick to it or not, not this odd wonky middle ground where hes trying to be the old slim shady but also self-reflective

Reality is Slim Shady was never a character and all the shit he spews comes directly from Mathers' brain. Mathers might have grown in certain areas as he's gotten older, but buried underneath it is the same shtick and the same resentments that man-children struggle to move on from.
He can obfuscate that by claiming in his songs that he's reflecting back and doesn't like what Slim Shady said, but none of that communicates regret or contrition. More like, "man this young kid had some stupid thoughts right?" And then he perpetuates those same tired ass thoughts over 2 dozen meager tracks.
If he wanted to make something actually genuine, kill Slim in the first song, interrupt him at the 2nd or 3rd verse, morph into a skit where you choke him out or whatever, and then use the rest of the album to create a tighter narrative where you eulogize the moron instead of resurrecting and reheating 20 year old beats talking about the same shit you seemingly never moved on from.
