maybe i'm crazy. but if fit for an autopsy can get "deathcore gojira" comparisons and this almost has some FFAA-sounding stuff on it then, by proxy there's probably a chance these guys bumped The Way of All Flesh a few times during writing.
Opening riff to the album has this proggy groove to it that reminded me of that era. Bass sounds so good on this baby.

Finally listened to Sun Eater as Moon Healer was the first thing I'd ever heard from this band. Gotta say it's right up there with this album, maybe even a little better. Will give it a few more spins, but yeah both these albums are damn good!

Sun Eater is great but something about it never fully clicked with me. I had a pretty immediate reaction to this though, and it has only gotten better with repeat listens.

damn I'll need to listen to this, I remember Sun Eater being very good. This band's trajectory is such a "fuck you" to scene kids who worship Doom it's glorious

Interesting way to say it. I doubt the band would even care to address the scene kids whatsoever lol. The band's lineup is also completely different, aside from Davy, from Sun Eater onward

If you don't like these lyrics then go listen to Genesis

Speaking of the lyrics, YouTube Music can do this thing with certain albums where it not only gives you the lyrics in a separate tab but actually follow along with their timing within the track. Works for this bad boy. Pretty neat.

Yeah I think Grinding Wheels of Ophanim is the one. That part at 40 seconds when it gets groovy then the guitar solos around 2.5 minutes and 3 minutes. Album rules, I'm in the camp of not being into tech/prog/death very much, but I think I give this band the benefit of the doubt as one of the aforementioned deathcore scene kids who has totally grown out of that genre. I'm guessing there's more people in that camp with me than people who still care about deathcore in 2024.

Deathcore is pretty different these days. Bands like Mental Cruelty and Lorna Shore have taken what was essentially complete garbage and turned it into something half-decent.

I always thought the first two tracks off of Sun Eater were the best ones - rest of the album slaps, but it peaked too early imo
This one just rips all the way through
I seriously fully expect this to be my favorite death metal album of 2024 and its only Feb, so some crazy releases have to happen for that to change
Also even though Doom was much more simple and got ragged on all the time back in the day, that shit went hard AF - there's a reason it was so popular, even though everyone pretended they were too metal to dig it

dunno about that Lucca, Ulcerate may put out something as it's been 4 years
Also dunno about that "first two tracks off of Sun Eater" shit because Global Shift fucking kills lol. As does Encircled and Buried Monuments. fk those 3 are so sick
