‘if I was a grown adult banned from an online community I would simply
Not visit that website anymore’
Back in my early to mid twenties I started visiting this football blog where I usually disagreed with what the writer believed and I’d put up long opposing diatribes (there were lots of people doing this), getting banned a couple of times. I liked the chat on the blog though. Eventually he said ‘look, you’re coming to my house and shitting on the carpet every other day’ or similar and said it wasn’t the forum to express that opinion, it was what he made a living from.
Later I started seeing what he said made a lot of sense and got his sense of humour, but one match everyone was chatting online and the whole thread was a shitshow and he banned about a hundred people, one of whom was me. When I returned after the ban I expressed I enjoyed the blog and didn’t want to get banned.
Now 15 years later I still go all the time and get on really well with him, but yeah, I had to understand the dynamic of the place and I changed not him. That can be the key obviously. I learnt quite a bit from it, esp about online behaviour.
But yeah, I’d say ‘not necessarily’ to that assumption, also considering 50% of the users here have been banned at one time or other - it’s a rite of passage to some extent.

"whaaaaaa? There’s a ‘ban list’? Low-key agreed on Colton if that’s the reasoning too. I think he’s just seen as a persistent pain in the arse, but like I don’t think people generally get banned for that. I’d have been culled a long time ago if that were the case"
Sowing is full of shit. I got banned for calling someone's opinion retarded while other people walk around here telling people to kill themselves etc.
Clearly playing favorites which is fine but just be upfront about it.
I got no prior warnings or anything either. Just straight up a permaban (you don't even get to know how long you're banned and have no way of contacting anybody or appeal a ban) Been 2 months now so permaban is my best guess.
Anyway just had to chime in. Had a good laugh reading this thread. Don't worry, I won't make 50 accounts

ReefaStones practically writes itself
Hmm, gotta say I did take exception to a couple of Reefa’s comments which were deleted (if I remember correctly), but I certainly wasn’t expecting perma-ban status. Bit extreme if that was the reasoning.

It was the Autechre thread, yeah.
What's annoying is the total lack of communication and transparency. If saying the word retarded carries with it the penalty of getting permabanned then atleast say so somewhere but that's not the case. The way it is right now (1 mod on a powertrip) just feels like selective punishment

What's sad is that you feel someone needs to tells you not to use that word. I'm middle aged and even I am aware it's considered a slur since 2010 (and probably before)

Of course it's a slur. "Asshole" is a slur as well. It's just a matter of which slurs you draw the line at. As a european I'm just not as aware of every (let's be real, mostly american) sensibility. Certain other slurs are of course a no brainer.

I’m pretty sure a lot of the Europeans here would disagree

I’m really loving this but one minor gripe I have is that so many of these songs follow a pretty similar structure of starting out very folky and minimal before building into these grand electronic sections. It works for the most part but does start to get a bit repetitive. Thankfully the last few tracks break from this flow somewhat.

the funny thing is if you prefix 'tard' with something you'd prob get away with it - like 'dicktard' or 'libtard' or whatever
it is what it is

Indubitably Phero. I’ve just rated it 4.5 which is the same I have C&L on, think it’s time I re-evaluated my rating on that though, it’s probably a 5.
