yeah especially going in as a non-fan seeing the singles and the reaction and being like "Yeah that band sucks anyway no shit, this must REALLY suck if the fans don't even like it" and then actually hearing and enjoying the album, pretty wild time.

Almost definitely gonna bump this to a 4 at least, the vocals still holding it back from anything that high though.
still mad and surprised it's so good.
One of my favorite quotes about this band is from way back in an interview with Horse the Band, the singer was like "People always ask if we're a joke band and like we obviously don't take ourselves very seriously and have some songs about silly things but I think the music is pretty obviously serious? Those guys in A7X call themselves shit like M. Shadows and Synyster Gates and nobody asks THEM if THEYRE serious" Also adding that they had toured with them and they were nothing but super nice dudes, so no shade.

Hail to the king was such a embarassing attemp to create safe radiorock that it completely skewed the general perspection of this band. Even the two albums before that had way too much of that going on. So seeing them as sellouts and avoiding their music seemed logical. Now they seem to be full of ideas, which is great.
