saw them with deftones last night so i saw the new album. if i rated it based on that, wouldn't give it higher than a 3 tbh
a lot of pretty moments but it lacks excitement.

i havent listened since around time of release tbh but i think the difference is the new was trying to be a bit proggier and kinda failing. this, for what it was, i remember being a pleasant surprise for more of an experimental rock album. more vocally interesting maybe?
that being said, the last 2 songs they played live were great. 2nd to last had a great hook that kept repeating but it def worked

Never would have thought that this band would make an album that reminds of me of Peter Gabriel but they've done it. Really great new album.

Imagine you show up to the Mars Volta and Deftones show expecting MV to play some intense shit off Deloused or Bedlam and they just play this slow, gloomy, groovy, pschedelic jam the whole time. Fucking hilarious.
New album is good though. Feels like they're trying to be truly progressive again, which is fun to hear.

The thing that frustrates me the most about these last few releases is you have access to one of the greatest guitar players of the last 30 years but he he insists on playing casio baby's first keyboard beeps and hoops for the last two albums and when he does play the guitar it's just simple little U2 plucks here and there. K I got that out and I know it's a shit take but...yeah
