Vocals an issue a lot of the time live
that does not surprise me, would be interesting if they had a singer who does not play an instrument

"Theyre all like 0.2 different from sput? Can you explain why thats bonkers?"
3.9 on RYM is the equivalent of 4.4 on sputnik. This being a 3.7 here is the equivalent of a 3.2 on RYM.

Lol yeah, RYM averages are quite different than Sput in general but the difference isn’t quite that drastic, not to mention that the sites’ userbases have different genre biases that increase or decrease the averages more in some cases.

I would say this seems to be in the running for RYM aoty…whereas here it’ll be lucky to qualify for the top 100 chart.
That’s a significant difference

Yeah the reception of these guys is certainly very different, but Baseline’s generalization was a bit exaggerated.

my average on RYM is approximately 0.4 points lower than here too, so that checks out

if only sput had 0.5s

unnecessary, ones are sufficiently lowly enough...
no need for further differentiation at that end of the scale for me

@conesmoke usually an album is rated lower on rym not the other way around, especially considering how many people voted on it on RYM.

"Why are you guys quoting a lesser guy than you just because he happens to be in a band with above average instrumentation? That is kinda... weak. As male representatives of humanity, you should follow larger, more powerful souls, not any attention-whore loser who rants about nothing."
y'ok

saw these lads live last night and gotta agree with Doof that they seem like a jazz ensemble at heart. had a really good time and their improvised sections were a blast. I enjoyed them more live than I do on record though. Songs like Welcome To Hell went ahrd af in a live setting with heavy bass.

I’ll concede I don’t think I knew the school is free to attend but you can see from the just endless list of alumni how much of a conveyor belt it is

I double post

“Worden: I was doing a piece of theatre about Aleppo. I wanted to explore what modern war would look like and how you could make a movement piece around it, so I turned to [then students] Black Midi and said: “I don’t suppose you fancy recording what war sounds like?" They made a 20-minute noise piece with screaming and helicopters. It is profound.”
I would expect nothing less

Seriously, go England! Hope they somehow keep that shit on life support through the arts funding cuts.

row I should clarify I meant like leading up to this current gen
I don’t know enough about this school but seeing all the names that came before black midi sorta calls into frame questions over intent and genuineness
not sure it’s a convo worth having at this point of their being a fully established act
