Still the best release of 2022... and it's not even close.

'feel bad for people who hear a relative structural simplicity to the songs on here and take it at face value without realizing it belies an expertly implemented representation of the very ideas that make dream pop what it is'

i take all music at face value because thats all there is

Personally I like to do deep theoretical and thematic analysis of every song I hear

I originally thought of the album in 4 sections because of its unusual method of release, but now I think of it more as CD1 and CD2. The first 8 songs (CD1) are an extremely lush and coherent listen, whereas CD2 has more experimentation (for them) and is a far more diverse listen. Both are brilliant for different reasons, but they definitely have different personalities. Unlike the Big Thief album where 4 or 5 songs could be kicked and the album would be better, for me there's only really one inessential song on OTM - The Bells; it's a good song, but it's the only one that doesn't feel like a progression from their earlier work.

The album is pure magic.

Every time I finish “Superstar” (outstanding track) and find myself in the early stages of this album, I tend to zone out and end up putting on Depression Cherry :’)

I wanna love this album but it just hasn’t clicked yet

I actually think the release schedule was instrumental in my loving the album as much as I do. Having only 4 songs for a month... I knew those songs SO well by the time I had 4 more to listen to in December. And then the same in January. Others hated the release schedule though.

Yeah, I wish they’d just released the album all at once. It’s a me thing, but I’ve grown tired of release gimmicks and even pre-release singles (or movie trailers, etc.). If I’m too familiar with the structure of a thing ahead of time, it takes me out of it, I lose some immersion and often feel locked out of that immersion. This release strategy did not work for me…to the contrary, tbh. Which is a shame. I love this band. But again, it’s a me problem

You should copyright that before colton uses it for his up and coming music site

Or don’t and leave it for fair juice
