I like new vox, and it feels as though the songwriting is staged around them and them alone to give them a spotlight. Dude does a good job, but listeners come to Persefone for the full package, and it's not coalescing as would be expected from prior material.
It's not necessarily BAD... but it is sadly boring. Not surprised to see it get early high scores, it's incredibly accessible to a fault.

They must have seen my comments @Mars lmao. I'm surprised though, genuinely thought you would adore it.

Maybe. I felt like the vox didn’t really mesh with what I wanted from Persefone, but from a ‘fit' perspective I can see why people might dig the new guy based on what the EP sounds like

then again I wasn’t really yearning for anything in particular after this unexpected turn. All options were possible. It just doesn’t really inspire me on any level so far, unfortunately

It's very flat and has no prog flair Kus, I definitely love the band but it feels like they trimmed far too much.
Maybe it'll grow on me but yeah not sold on it.

I haven't listened to the new EP yet, but when you see even Mars call a Persefone release boring you know something went wrong

I'll give it another few shots but first listen, every song just felt static to a fault in terms of its progressions, again mostly in service to introduce a new vocalist. It just doesn't really gel together as you'd hope.
Martins was an incredible vocalist, but it was how he complemented the band's sound that helped make them what they were, not him by himself.

the Persefone I used to love is gone, now it's just boring-looking album art, drab production, weak vocals, boring instrumentation

They've been on a slow downward spiral ever since Shin-Ken sadly
|
| |
Funnily enough I haven't yet gotten to their albums after Shin-Ken, they've seemed fairly divisive from what I've seen though.

yeah spiritual migration is fucking ass
prog and chug don't mesh well together

Recently I've found another prog death band also from Andorra called Nami who reminded me a lot of Persefone, might be worth looking more into. They haven't really made anything since 2013 from the looks of it unfortunately.

With regards to the EP, I wish I agreed Venin but I can't recall anything from it. I'll keep trying because no other band has earned the benefit of doubt like these cats but man...

They have a new vocalist so it’s no surprise that they play their first release with him very safely
