Basically P-Funk is:

1. Pro-black advancement political takes masqueraded in songs about goofy dancing aliens

2. Powerful bass grooves, colorful key parts, sexy vocals, and soulful guitar solos

3. A general sense of inclusivity and togetherness

4. Lots of drugs

All coming together to become super influential on hip hop, and a key part of the Afrofuturism movement

They really have a positive message, and it comes off as so genuine, even if it's a bit "hippy-ish" for some people, and they're fun as hell

The best shroom trip I've had was when I saw them live last summer

It was wild because Fishbone opened for them, who I don't really love, but they're fine, but during Fishbone a mosh pit opened and I was so confused because a moshpit for a Parliament-Funkadelic opener seemed so bizarre even if Fishbone's music made sense for that...but it explained why some of the crowd was dressed pretty punk

Then when George Clinton took the stage afterward, I thought I was only gonna see them do their typical brand of funk/rock/soul and that it was mostly gonna be older people since they're a 70s group, but they tossed in metal riffs, a hip hop cover ("Get Low" by Lil John), even jazz and classical motifs, they even covered "I'm the Slime" by Zappa. It made my tripping-out mind see the connections between everything and how P-funk had a mission to bring everyone together

All the while, the stage and crowd were both diverse as all hell, I mean diverse in all age ranges (kids with their dads, elderly people, young adults, etc) races, genders (plenty of men and women in what seemed almost equal proportions, sexual orientations, etc. I was surprised by how visibly queer both the crowd and some of the younger musicians playing with Clinton on stage were. All the while Clinton, who is over 80 years old, beamed a huge smile while waving his arms to get us all wave in unison.

Like I don't know how many artists could get that kind of response out of me, but it felt so genuine and positive and accepting of a place. It was lovingly weird

Sorry if this reads like copypasta but like...yeah best concert ever...to me that's kinda what to "get" from p-funk
