It's summer in here and, spoiler alert guys, it's still underwhelming

Idk. I just love this. But I also am a sucker for his pop music, way moreso than his earlier psych rock. But I’ve come to acceptance that I’m literally the only person who thinks that

I do prefer his pop sound over his psych style as well
Thing is, I expected this to be an evolution of Currents, which I loved but felt inconsistent at times. But in the end, this pretty much sounds the same and "safer" than Currents, with a sound that, for me, feels repetitive and less developed/varied. All the songs in here sound pretty much the same for me

yet they’re not the same, they’re all as varied as anything he’s made

Sadly, I can't see that

idk how long this leaked but this wasn’t released long ago. I know for most people who listen to music often can already pick apart what they’ve liked the most but sometimes what doesn’t connect at first should have some time to breathe and settle (if you have time luxury of time that is).
to me this feels like an expansion of Currents minus the retro padding it had. as if that sound ended the ultraretro-yet-futuristic 80s video game level it was riding on and got launched towards the tropical beach with a ceaseless breeze where Prince is serving cocktails.
yea sure it’s summer where you’re by but you’re not at the beach living it up with your people now are you

I'm a huge Tame fan, ever since the EP. But I find this so incredibly boring, no stand out tracks at all. The production is tight, but the real content is lacking feeling.

"I cannot wait til summer to really enjoy this to its max for sure"
Agreed, Feb is a weird time of the year to release an album like this

Valentine's day...half these are alluding to a big change in his life aka getting married ! And fuck it's still hot in aus where he's originally from. Just more reason for us in the northern hemisphere to be excited for summer

Ah true that

i was a bit worried for this album after i found the singles lacklustre compared to currents, but they sound a lot better in the context of the album. it's still an inferior product, but the production is fantastic and its definitely gonna be a grower.
agree with criticisms that the album is somewhat style over substance but for me it outranks 95% of albums in the 'style' category which wins it a lot of points in my book.

^^^well articulated. Def my thoughts on the album so far but again definitely wouldn't be surprised if I considered this as good as currents one day. Time sometimes does wonders

There’re many rewarding details to appreciate here, it’s just monotonous on the surface. I do think the tempos and his singing could have more variety tho.
It’s the dead of summer where I’m doing a 3-month tour of Australia currently, perfect album for it.

"it’s just monotonous on the surface."
I feel that. I found myself finding more in songs like Posthumous, On Crack, and One More Hour the more that I consecutively listen to them. The repetitive stuff that originally caught my attention fade into the mix and I see how structure unfolds.

Quite a few of Kevin's vocal inflections annoy me on this record

Does Kevin actually have vocal inflections on this record? I wouldn't know after Currents.

That's my favorite too. It's less intricate/artsy/experimental than some of the other tracks here, but it feels like the most complete and memorable "song"
