pika has on the impossible past of all albums 1'd
|
| |
Pika hates pop punk so yeah that makes sense
|
| |
Yeah this is just too pessimistic. The vocalist kinda ruins the band for me.
Like damn dude we get it you're depressed. I've been there too, but the absolute misery on here is so draining.

for me what kills this is how ridiculously samey it is. outside of kick, beach front property, and losers 2, this really just feels like the same song over and over again
|
| |
Very one note for sure. The guitar tone on this rules tho, and I admittedly like Kick a lot but my god the self loathing lyricism and the fact the vocalist sounds like a sheep really bothers me

what the hell are you expecting out of an emo record, lyrics not about negative emotions?
admittedly tho, it does feel rather one-note.
|
| |
I can appreciate lyrics about negative emotions and depression, but this guy takes it to the extent where its just pitiful. Songs about depression should be a release of catharsis, but this makes me feel even worse lol.

"but my god the self loathing lyricism and the fact the vocalist sounds like a sheep really bothers me"
@Jay I am 100% with you. Schmaltz was fairly similar, but for some reason I enjoyed it far more and I felt like it had a slightly more hopeful outlook where as this is just bleh. A little over the top whiney for me.

Pretty much all I get when I listen to this is an enormous release of catharsis but to each their own
On another note, I’ve been kind of obsessed with The Menzingers lately. I’ve always liked them but they’re really hitting the spot rn for some reason
|

Perhaps I should have reserved my judgement, because this really did hit me on a depressing day like today. It's too real I guess is my biggest problem with it. Lotta tough pills to swallow with lines like "anxiety is the theme of all our lives these days"
Menzingers rule for sure. I'm sure After the Party will hit much harder when I reach my 30's too

I think this band is best to listen to with more breaks. It can be a little overwhelming with the constant pessimism. However I agree with Atari and I find it to be a nice release most of the time

as if the world status deserved anything else than stark pessimism lol
but yeah phantom limb "we got 10 years in this body, 20 on this earth" is a lil bit cringey, but I guess with all the anxiety lately I must confess it still resonates more than it should
|
| |
"as if the world status deserved anything else than stark pessimism lol"
Very true. It's so fucked.

If I’m a 35 year old sad sack of shit, does that mean I’ll like The Menzingers?

I listened to this during the first week of pandemic in Milan, Italy at probably the lowest I have been in years, this will always be my fav.
