Most Brits suck at it too (2) BUT they still insist on partaking in it at every available opportunity, (unless you're like me who actively avoids it). The issue isn't the sucking, it's sucking but still feeling some sort of obligation to awkwardly talk about the weather to the person standing next to you. A mutually acceptable silence is a perfectly fine situation to be in.
