Good review mate, long but a nice read tho. For me is a fine album, there are some songs I enjoy like "My Pain" or "Not Long for This World" but the general feeling is that is not impressive as people seem to find it, then again I don't find any Slipknot album really solid, there's songs here and there but nothing that good.

The S/T is the best, but that’s more of a right place right time thing. Made a huge impact when it came out.
To me, Eyeless off the S/T and Disasterpiece off Iowa are the two songs that hold up best from the early era. There were some interesting more experimental tunes even back then but bith of those were destroyers that really captured what the band and sub genre as a whole were trying to do at the time
Off of Vol 3, it’s Vermillion PT 1 that holds up best. Also the only one where the shitty production kind of works for the song.
This album would have made a great follow up to Iowa.

I liked these guys in high school/college but then stopped listening to them for a bit (entirely missed out on .5). Always enjoyed their blend of intense screaming/clean vocals, so I had my eye on this release for a couple of months.

Sowing, were you ever into the mid 00’s bands that did the heavy verse melodic chorus thing like ATR or scar symmetry

Scar Symmetry rings a bell and if by ATR you mean All That Remains then yes

Red Flag goes so hard.

yeah red flag is one of my favourites for sure. critical darling and nero forte are up there too. i also hated unsainted when it first came out but im really enjoying that now

Unsainted sounds better within the album but is still blatant pandering towards the charts.
Orphan is a personal favourite here, Solway Firth is definitely up there too.

does slipknot still think they have a shot at chart relevance? lol
I enjoy it for what it is and it didn't feel like pandering at all to me

It is pandering towards the masses though, really hooky chorus which is really reminiscent of Stone Sour.
A band themselves that are on rock radios constantly.

I think Orphan should’ve been the opener with Unsainted following it

I'm not most in tune with rock radio so I'm sure you're right
But all I know is I'd hate a Slipknot album that doesn't offer any hooky choruses

They do it well in all fairness, I like the song anyway I just feel like it doesn't fit in with anything else on the album.
