Sound design in Demon's Souls might be the best out of the whole series, too.

Dark Souls 1's combat is much nicer than 3's. 1 is appropriately weighty and diverse, and the game accounts for any type of playstyle, whereas 3 is floaty and encourages far too frequently a dex-heavy build, so even when you're trying more unique builds in 3, the game still feels like it's telling you you're choosing the wrong way to play.

Even though awards shows usually mean nothing overall, I'm rather impressed Sekiro managed to beat both Death Stranding and Smash Ultimate. I'm not much of a Souls guy but I've been interested in this and will definitely consider picking it up.

I thought all the games nominated for GOTY at the awards were fine choices. I don't know why some people are seemingly surprised at Sekiro winning it.

I think it would have been poor form for Death Stranding to win solely for the fact that Geoff Keighley is in the game and it's a clear conflict of interest for his Game Awards to give GOTY to the one he got to be in.

I mean, it had some stiff competition. Death Stranding could've won for Kojima's name alone and Smash is one of the biggest game series in general. Souls games definitely have their dedicated fanbase, though even some of them were a little mixed on Sekiro. But eh, like I said, awards shows mean nothing the majority of the time, so it's not something too much to worry about.

3's combat doesn't feel floaty at all to me, feels very responsive and fast-paced, I love it. Also appreciate that, you know, omnidirectional rolling is a thing in that game, makes fights 50 times more enjoyable and balanced. The bosses in 1 are pretty weak, and there's A LOT of jank in the game. Also Miracles are just straight broken. Still a masterpiece. I wish I could take the best elements of 1 and 3 and combine them in a game.

dont get me wrong gyro it’s a baller game but feels more like a one off to tide me over until elden ring. got repetitive by the end and although i enjoyed my playthrough more than ds2 and 3 i feel those games have a lot more meat on the bone. no real interest in returning to sekiro unless some sizable dlc comes out

I never noticed the inclusion of omni-directional rolling in 3 and I never felt its absence when returning to 1. I don't think omni-directional rolling has ever been that valuable.

I also prefer most of the bosses in Dark Souls 1 to anything in 3. Hell, I barely remember any bosses from Dark Souls 3.

The way Geoff got around not giving Death Stranding GOTY was by giving Hideo best director. I knew the moment Hideo got that that Death Stranding wasn't gonna win. Was almost like a consolation prize lol

But yea award shows are dumb, and the announcements weren't very impressive this year...

I only watched for the announcements and was sorely disappointed. The only two games I was interested in were games I already knew about (Ghost of Tsushima and Gears Tactics). It was nice to see more of them but I was really hoping for some mind blowing reveals and it was all just garbage.

It's a funny thing when the best thing about your video games show is a Muppets skit, lmao.

The muppet skit had me laughing out loug ngl I was pretty prepared to cringe the fuck out but they actually succeeded at being funny. The Apex skit on the other hand...



Also nobody was hyped for Hellblade 2? Cuz I was.

Hellbalde 2 was my game of the show.

Chvrches was the zenith of nerdism, 2 neckbeards on synths and a cosplayer singing emo pop.

Grimes was... disorienting.

I'm glad Hellblade 2 is being made, but I don't care for the first game at all. But at least unique passion projects are getting funded, which is always good.

I just hope they dont pull an exclusive deal on that one.

I mean, I hope they do. Xbox without exclusives is just the exact same machine we have now. We don't need another Xbox if it's not gonna have any console exclusives. It is useless as a machine other than being a (potentially) cheap PC that can run less games than a PC.

Consoles need exclusives and they need hardware that makes those exclusives worth playing.

Like I get the hate, but the guys who bought telltale had nothing to do with their business practices and I want WAU2 so fuck off.

Wolf Among Us 2 does feature many original devs tho, this was confirmed.
