OMG is that for real? That can't be real.
It's probably real.

The song rules though.
Muse always had pretty inconsistent lyrics. Some are really good, some okay and sone are just... e.g. "I'm young but I know when I'm aroused" from Overdue.

A lot of people complain that the guitars aren't the main instrument anymore but I think the real problem is the songwriting just isn't memorable. On the bands best albums, the guitar was a big thing of course but also the songwriting was great and the melodies were memorable and the music felt passionate and cool.
The change in direction isn't necessarily the problem. A band like Radiohead ditched their guitars and changed direction at one point but the thing with that band is they still were writing good songs. The songwriting still held up and with Muse it just didn't in my opinion.

But all of them executed by a man who seems to get some kind of sexual satisfaction from his own vibrato. Wah wah

Strangely, this isn’t nearly as bad as I expected. I’ve never liked the band, tbh. Always thought they were overrated. This is far from terrible though. I think this is the most I’ve enjoyed a Muse album.

Yeah they suck now but the guitar thing is definitely overstated, yet it's where a lot of the complaints seem to stem from. A few people were confused into thinking Drones was a return to their routes because the guitars were (sort of) back, well that may have been the case in part, the album was still an inconsistent mess. I guess it represented a marked improvement over their previous effort.

Oh yeah I only really appreciate their earlier material, those endless waves of super-serious chin-stroking cerebral massages as found on OoS & Absolution. When they have 'fun' it sucks. Hang on a minute...

wait you don't even like OoS or Absolution?

I do; unfortunately I was attempting to make a rather sarcastic point which may not have translated very well in text form. Not a wordsmith like yourself Sowing. Old Muse is plenty 'fun' essentially, so I doubt criticism of their new direction is based on the idea that fun = bad.
