They're more like 'Four Planks Loitering Around the Northern Quarter, Manchester'

i would never call this AOTY bait. If anything, i feel this album don't gaf about that shite.

I think this is quite the po-faced grand artistic statement - not that that's inherently bad, but this def seems the sort of approach to tickle a certain element of critics something silly, I guess a lot of the most anticipated end of year lists haven't been released yet and maybe that's when this will rally.
I can see some of the appeal of the album and I'm genuinely surprised if this doesn't end up top 20 in the critics consensus and I'd still much rather see this near the top than "Dirty Computer' or 'Brief Enquiry'.

Consequence of Sound just dropped their list and Dirty Computer is #2 while Aviary is #25 :p

jesus forbid actually challenging, dense, forward-thinking music makes the fucking list
And of course dirty computer is gonna get there, it's got a song about pussy.

This is a great album but I haven't had the time to sit down with it very much and listen to the whole thing.

Yeah, I don't mind this making the cut because there's about 25 minutes of material on this thing I'd rate a 3.5 outta 5.
'Dirty Computer' has 25 seconds I'd rate a 3.5, prob the part of the song about pussy that most concerns pussy :/

this year is all about niche albums for each subset of listeners, there's no consensus favorite

New Daughters, Earl Sweetshit and that IDLES one seem to be getting universal aclaim 'cept for the few contrarians (like me)

Early on but it appears Low are the steady eddies of 2018 end of year lists and sure, I really like the album - even if maybe it's cheekily a tiny bit boring at times, the scamps
I'd hate it to be my no. 1 AOTY but I'm also more than happy it gets a top 10 spot on my list - in its own way it's damn masterful

One of this year's best - and maybe the smartest direction she could go in after her last album (which was also fantastic, but so very different)

One of those albums that should, in theory, check all of my boxes but ultimately fails to grab me.
