John Carpenter has the most consistent filmography of any horror director I can think of. Unfortunately he was ahead of his time so audiences and even critics couldn't connect with a masterpiece like The Thing. That's why most of his movies are now considered "cult films" and very influential. His ideas for stories were usually bigger than the budgets he was able to get too.
Everything he did up to the underrated In The Mouth of Madness, one of my favorite horror movies, is at least good and usually great. Not a fan of much anything he made afterward though, even The Ward. Of course if he does decide to make another movie I would watch it. Partnering with A24 would be an interesting idea, they rarely make a misstep.

i agree talons. He always had very high-concept ideas, like They Live being disguised as an alien-takeover flick, when in reality it's a very political social satire with a lot of deep commentaries that must've flown over most contemporary heads. Same with The Thing, In The Mouth of Madness, Escape From NY, Christine, etc. They are all very deep and thought-provoking films disguised as B-movie action/horror flicks. The fact that They Live and Prince Of Darkness actually appeared on contemporary “WOTY” lists proves this. Chris Stuckmann said it best by saying 90% of his films would've been praised and hailed had they come out 20 years later. Even Ghosts Of Mars would've been viewed more positively because it could've banked in on the tongue-in-cheek 80's nostalgia camp that's passable now.

Not even 20 years later. Literally if those had come out past 1995 they woulda done better

Another new track dropped. Sounds absolutely fire. Very Trent Reznoresque.

Only carpenters 70s/ 80s works are of note. His 90s stuff is nothing sort of terrible, minus mouth of madness

True that. Prince of Darkness, They Live, and especially In the Mouth of Madness are underrated too.

Prince of Darkness is strangely disturbing, always thought it was an underrated movie.
In the Mouth of Madness is good as well.

Is it underrated though? I haven't seen The Fog but all the others are pretty highly regarded.

"I haven't seen The Fog but all the others are pretty highly regarded."
I've seen all those films and "The Fog" is one of my faves, actually.

Escape and Halloween are kinda overrated in a modern lens imo but The Thing is one of the best-aged horror films of all time, what a perfect film
|
| |
Agreed about Escape not ageing great, but it's still a barrel of fun.

Beyond hyped for the new movie. Looks bloody as hell m/

I’d give Halloween Kills a 5/10. Dumb movie. 2018 was way better.
I even prefer the first few sequels from the original, which is embarrassing for Kills haha

Halloween Kills was pretty brutal,
2018 was one of the best Halloweens made, Kills is a terrible premise, with stupid scenes,
IMO not a Halloween movie
