they're more confident in embracing the "progressive" elements of their music

I agree with that tbh but I still like Anareta more. This is for sure more progressive than anything they’ve done before it though.

Boring? the song writing on this is varied, unexpected, and really interesting. It's just technical enough to not go overboard, and still retains that good OSDM edge with the right amount of prog.

Devotion (Blood & Ink) is such a ripper, that chorus riff grooves so hard

pump up the vol X) kidding I know what you mean...sometimes the effort to make everything audible takes off a bit of the power I'd guess.

There's probably enough headroom in there for them to push it louder without compromising any noticeable amount of dynamics, but I respect their decision to keep it uncompressed. I don't mind turning up the volume, except for when I forget I did and the next track I listen to is something off of Colony and my eardrums explode inside my head.

Agree hard with Dungeon, the phrase "My only wish is that it was louder" should never be employed in like 99% of post-2000s metal. If you jam any underground shit and it sounds real good (i.e. Horrified, Nucleus, Lo-Rumahah, Witch Vomit etc..) there's a chance it's been mastered by this guy.

He makes Horrendous sound real organic and dynamic without any analog gear (all runned through digital plugins!) taking the everything that is good about 90's metal production and filtering it through modern lenses.

lol, colony is LOUD

i'd much rather an album not be loud and keep its dynamics. u can still safely turn up the volume without going to extreme levels like u would with compressed music
