I wouldn't mind voices on this, but I dunno which approach would be good for them.

Maybe some post metal yells. Like Scott Kelly/Steve Von Till

Umm maybe that's too heavy for some of the nimble stuff they do. I was thinking smth more... juvenile.

i feel like i should give an actual explanation for why i wouldn't want vox on this album lmao

1) vocals will necessarily distract from the various instrumental nuances (a brain only has so much processing power). there's just enough going on in the first place imo

2) no vocals (lyrics specifically) allows for a more fluid interpretation of the album, which i think is what the band were trying to get at anyway (an ever-morphing dreamscape, purposefully a bit vague). vocal samples are already sufficient for delivering basic messages

3) there's already a lot of character, as well as what i'd call indulgence, and that an instrumental album can possess these traits is something i think deserves to be shown in and of itself. vocals may superficially benefit a verse or two, but there's something to be said for the value of exploring what instruments alone can do. the curious effect of there being no vocals is that my mind finds "voice" in the instruments - they almost become personified, but on a more abstract level than the actual human presence of vocals. what i refer to as indulgence is the combination of technical flair and something more slippery - maybe the way songs swell dramatically, or restrain themselves just so, or deliberately introduce irregularities (that weird screech on Phoenix? Glitch in the You I Thought I Knew tumbling into No.0? etc.)

i also have 855 plays from this album so yeah you could say i'm a bit obsessed

sounds reasonable. tbh i also think this is perfectly ok without vocs. the music presented is - as many pointed out alrdy - captivating enough.

its just that im curious about how different this record would be in its delivery with some vocs. definitely think this _could_ be done in a good way for this album. now that i thought about it a bit longer id love to hear loic rossettis take on this.

Let's never have vocalists ever again. Ever.
It'll be like back in the 40's and 50's where instrumental songs could make it to the top 10 of the billboards

I was just giving my 2cents bois... My opinion is that some vocals, SOME! could have added depth, as in meaning... I don't know I'm just throwing this out there, maybe some Dustin Kensrue's Vheisshu type of vocal, sometimes clean sometimes harsh... with some deep meaning as to carry the weight of some parts that are kinda stale to my taste, I SAID TO MY TASTE!

I have to agree that this is superior to "lift your existence" by a LOT. I think that they somehow benefited by dropping the vocals, but then again, I think some vocals are needed, I dig the record as it is tho.

HUGS.

Say no more Claire, your opinion already crushes mine. To hell with the voices.

I didn't really wanted to bring the vocalist discussion again but this is a very "toolesque" sound, so I said Lessard, only to avoid the obvious Maynard (that would never approach this). I think this proggy and spiritual side to it just put Patton style aside, which is experimental, but also more poprock and just wouldn't fit the vibe imo. And this is my last opinion about vocals on this lol sorry guys.

PS: relistening now

@inthox It's extremely fun if you like stats and keeping track of what you listen to. For some of us it has also been highly addictive.
