@Wonder: Meh, Tilian era just has been struggling to jive with me (especially post-Instant Gratification), and I'm probably in the minority of listeners that a) is not too hot on Jon Mess, and b) would put the two Kurt-era albums on top. Mess isn't bad per se, I just don't vibe with it much, and the less of a presence he has the better as far as I'm concerned. Hence why I'd easily take this over Mothership.
I'd even say that I really would rather hear the bands they influenced or spurred off from DGD than DGD themselves. The list goes on; Eidola, Artifex Pereo, Shrezzers (especially them, just listen to that fucking SAX my god), A Lot Like Birds, Sianvar, Icarus the Owl, Hail the Sun, Tides of Man, maybe even Sufferer if they count. Hell, I'd rather hear acts like The Fall of Troy and I still haven't gotten to fully discogging them yet unfortunately.
If I were to add anything else, I think Jonny Craig's best work for me has never been in DGD sans maybe DBM2. It's always been the other bands he fucked over; to name a few, Emarosa, Slaves, Isles & Glaciers.

And yea, sorry for the essay. I just had a lot to say on this. This is a band I really can't see myself digging much outside a few select albums unless a fucking miracle happens.

yeah if you like quirky for the sake of being quirky. I have early Weezer for my quirk fix, I don't need this.

It's not quirky for the sake of quirky, DGD has always been like this.

this is actually less quirky than their previous albums

Then they've always been quirky for the sake of it, I guess? Happiness was a nice surprise since it seemed like it was a lot more streamlined, and I dig the hell out of Kurt's voice. I should probably go through more of A Lot Like Birds' stuff for that though.

@iglu: that explains why I prefer it to Mothership at least.

The band has gone on record saying they don't take themselves seriously.
