nah I was gonna say I'm looking forward to another album art in the same vein as the first two, but I don't actually know if it's a full-length or an EP or what

Based on what Flightless records posted, looks like it’s going to be a single

it's a 7", the b-side is a talking heads cover.

that's kind of a bummer that it's looking like it's only 2 tracks, but I guess it'll be cool to hear a TFS take on "Legal Ghost" which I recognized as a lyric from Braindrops track "Aspirin" but didn't realize it was also an older song of Gareth's from the 90's until today

Really spaced out stuff, definitely scans early like a grower

it's gonna sound good on the 3rd full-length! still got a feeling we're gonna see that before the end of the year... was hoping that's what today's release was gonna be, but just a tease

Took me way too long to check out their Staying Alive cover. I love this fucking band. Got the day off tomorrow, gonna do a long overdue Drones discog listen

Anywhere I should start specifically or should I just go from first to last?

Wouldn’t recommend starting with Here Come the Lies, as much as I love it.
Starter’s guide
Here Come the Lies: Punk Blues Caterwaul
Wait Long: Art punk, straight up
Miller’s Daughter: Blistering psycho garage
Gala Mill: Art punk Aussie country
Havilah: Rough and pastoral, very little punk
I See Seaweed: Sprawling songwriting with a focus on climactic builds
Feelin’ Kinda Free: Guitar pedal fuckery, Proto-TFS

my first album of theirs was I See Seaweed, I think that's a good place to start and also one of their best, but if you really intend to listen to them all, I don't know if it matters
their last album might have moments that come the closest to the TFS sound
their first album is noisy and abrasive as all hell
from Wait Long By the River and the Bodies of Your Enemies Will Float By through to Havilah is probably the 'chillest' stretch of records they put out, though they all certainly get dark and noisy

actually I always forget that The Miller's Daughter came out after Wait Long... that one I would say was abrasive and noisy as all hell too if I remember correctly... it's the one I've spent the least amount of time with

Honestly they're all great, just depends what you're looking for. Seaweed and Gala Mill are my favorites, and Here Come the Lies took the longest to grow (probably my number 3 now as it stands, though), but you can't really go wrong. Favorite fucking band
Check Gareth's solo album, too, way too slept on for a masterpiece
Edit: Miller's Daughter was released after Wait Long, but it's basically B-Sides dating from their earliest stuff up through the Wait Long sessions, so it's still more closely tied to the Here Come the Lies era, although a little more on the garage side and less on the blues

Finally listened to all The Drones records. Overall, I think I See Seaweed is the best out of all of them, that being said To Think That I Once Loved You is fucking perfect and might be the best song Gareth ever wrote.

Fuck yeah, welcome back. Gaz’s move in the 2010s to really doubling down on a pedal experimentation’s been such a rewarding development. The textures on Seaweed are absolutely to die for

And the way the songs build man. Very post rock influenced imo. Wish I discovered them sooner

On the other hand, always nice to have a new artists to deep dive. Got heavy into them and TFS sometime last year, and don’t think I’ve ever disappeared as far inside a single discog as I have this ‘un. Rewards endless relistening like nobody’s business

shame and sin, where ya been
I don't ever miss ya being on my own
then you come in, all-knowing
like you've never made mistakes of your own
