From Out of Nowhere was my first, that keyboard melody along with the riff and Patton just jumping around like a madman sold FNM to me in seconds.

Anyone of our ilk actually think they didn’t lose their magic after whatshisface left?

Was supposed to see this band in 2020 but the concert got cancelled. It is honestly tragic because I don't see them touring again. Anyway, love this album. I remember my Mum had a couple of songs from here on her phone and I overplayed the shit out of Epic, Surprise! You're Dead and Zombie Eaters. They are probably half the reason I am into most of the bands I listen to today.

@zak Band half died when Chuck Moseley left and fully died when Jim
Martin left

'King for a Day' was a step down for sure even though technically it's half made up of well written songs.
Sounds too manufactured and glossy, close to soulless.
Genre experiments made in a laboratory. System of a Down overtook them in a way when they appeared on the scene...and that says it all.

I said this in the KFAD thread and got crucified for it but KFAD feels like the Mike Patton show with how reduced the focus on Gould and Bottum’s playing ended up. Also agree that it’s where they went from playing with genre in a creative way to pastiching different genres on a song by song basis.

Maybe down to the success of 'Easy'? The joke was only funny because it was a cover really...you don't need to actually try to write four versions of something similar to 'Easy' on the next album.

95 %, they still have a couple of amazing tracks after Martins departure

Despite all I've said here I do really rate the title track from 'King for a Day'
'Just a Man' is impressive in a slightly obnoxious way too

KFAD is a 5 and is close to floorless apart from a few duds like Star AD and auch
Band dying when Mosley left is fking nonesense Patton FNM pisses in everything Mosley ever did with them. Would have loved to see where they went if Martin had stayed out perfectly fine with KFAD even AOTY is a little underrated

I was very, very impressed with AOTY when it came out.
Ashes to Ashes is still in my top 50 all time favourite lifetime musical moments.
Absolutely blew me bollocks off.
There was still something missing though.

Zak, this is where we diverge on FNM opinions...I'd definitely take 'King for a Day' over 'Album of the Year'
That one's four good enough songs and not a lot else to report.
The whole album after 'Ashes to Ashes' is a trainwreck for me

Neither are listened at all nowadays but funnily enough I gave the second half of aoty a whirl as a result of the FNM bumps today and it is still a good ‘un.
Having had a look on Wikipedia I also see it was absolutely panned in America upon release. I remember several good reviews for it when it came out and was massively interested as a result of how staggering good I thought Ashes to Ashes was.
Good times.

I do get what you mean. Was never a hindrance for me though.

The feeling when a song came on MTV that you loved. Impossible to explain now obviously just sounds lame but...
