I read something recently, a study from a majority university, that pointed to the conclusion that most people are unable to recognize genius when it's staring them in the face.

So naturally you're going to use this to savagely attack anyone who disagrees with you, regardless of whether or not the disagreement is personal.

Let me try rephrasing that in a manner you can understand. Ahem...

DO. YOU. WANT. BANANA?!

"You'd have to be borderline retarded to see this album as shitty. It's about the closest thing to compositional perfection as can be obtained in the realm of Metal. All of it is on a serioulsy high level of craft."

Oh my god, i love this album but what the fuck.

I'll go with what speerpike said...banana?

I never get tired of the irony of people spelling my name wrong. It makes me feel more like my namesake.

Anyway, a little bit of knowledge in the hands of stupid people is a dangerous thing.

Fortunately for all of the dissenters who are joining me over in Camp Face-Rocking, the Metallica groupies are like a small dog with no legs or teeth: it makes a lot of noise, but it ain't goin' anywhere.

Whoah. I didn't see any savage attacks taking place. I hope you didn't perceive any. I'm just pointing out that if one doesn't possess an ability for 'objective measurement' they shouldn't be reviewing albums. It's just not "your thang". Most bands at present can't write a single five minute song that will be memorable any longer than its first month of release. But, then we look at 'Master Of Puppets' and see an album FULL of memorable songwriting which is STILL being held in tremendously high regard, what, 22 years after its release. That's a feat, bro. And, a mighty big one when you look at all the filthy muck that was being recorded at the same time that this masterpiece was in production. Metallica could have easily fallen in line with the rest of the super-cheezy, hair-Pop outfits that populated the 1980's. But, they didn't. They retained a level of integrity that only a handful of band were adhering to.....Of course, they turned their back on that level of virtue in the next decade. But, during the 80's, up to and including '91, Metallica was the poster-band for musical integrity and intensity.

Dude, lighten up. I just think it's funny because in the books where the character Steerpike comes from, it's a running gag that everyone gets his name wrong except for Doctor Prunesquallor.

So Steerpike, City of Evil is better then this album?

I happen to think so. But you guys only ever listen to me when I'm finding creative ways to call people stupid, so what does it matter?

I'm just pointing out that if one doesn't possess an ability for 'objective measurement' they shouldn't be reviewing albums.

Unfortunately, your definition of objective measurement seems to mean how much the other person agrees with you.

That's a feat, bro.

If that's the standard of quality, why aren't you blowing Elton John for making the number one single of all time: Candle in the Wind?

But, during the 80's, up to and including '91, Metallica was the poster-band for musical integrity and intensity.

No, they just latched on to what they thought would be the next big thing. And they were right.

You want a band that represents integrity? Listen to some Iron Maiden and get back to me.

Fact of the matter is, you quoted a university study that you likely don't even understand, and used it to justify you whiny bullshit and the fact that you're too much a baby to handle anybody contradicting your opinions. People like you are why nobody takes Metallica or their fans seriously.

On top of that, you want to talk intensity in the 80's? I have got some bands you need to hear if you think Metallica were intense. This Message Edited On 07.02.08

See, now you're just bein' a dik.

'objective measurement' The ability to discern greatness, regardless of whether you (subjectively) happen to like it or not.

lol. No one takes Metallica or their fans seriously, huh? You have a smile on your face, right? You havta. You surely can't be serious. You're talking like it's some small, little group of people trying to get some credibility. Metallica has already conquered the planet. Their day in the sun has already arrived and past. Anything they do at this point is only icing on the cake. As much as I love Maiden, they NEVER had a string of albums as potent as the first five Metallica discs....And, that's just being objective about it.

And, the most recent Maiden album is hot. That thing came totally outta left field and smacked me down on the upside. I was expecting something rather weak like Fear of the Dark or X Factor, and instead got something worthy of inclusion with Maiden's first five.

See, now you're just bein' a dik.

It's what I do.

The ability to discern greatness,

I can arguably quantify virtuosity. And I appreciate that Metallica found a winning formula. But that doesn't mean I'm going to give this piece of shit album a 5 just because a bunch of teenagers blogged about how much I suck for giving it a 2.

You surely can't be serious.

Metallica have been the favorite band of poseurs and rebel wannabes for years. People don't take the band seriously because they're a parody of themselves. And people don't take the fans seriously because of the hordes of 14-years-olds trying to annoy their parents without even having the balls to at least put on a real death metal album.

As much as I love Maiden, they NEVER had a string of albums as potent as the first five Metallica discs.

Bullshit. Maiden have consistently pleased fans and critics alike since day one. And even their lesser albums with Blaze Bailey have their merits, regardless of what the parrots tell you.

All this however does not change the fact that it's hilarious that you threw a tantrum and attacked a reviewer using some far-fetched claim to buttress your weak argument, and all because he didn't get down on his knees and join the rest of Metallica's fans in sucking the band's collective balls.

Hold on. Maiden had Number of the Beat thru seventh son. 5 awesome albums there.

And each one also showed progress instead of just rehashing the previous album or trying to ride the trend of whatever appeared to be hot at the time. This Message Edited On 07.02.08
