gotta say that I love the Sputnik dudes who listen to an album barely even once and then just give it a low rating and dismiss it. It's not like musicians put years of work and energy into crafting something that merits at least a number of listens to be properly understood and/or appreciated

Depends, it's different for every album & where's the line? Is twice acceptable? How about three times? I'd also argue the 'quality' of said listen (i.e. listening conditions) is more important than the quantity. If you play something 3 times but there's outside interference/you're preoccupied is this better than one dedicated listening experience where you eliminate all distractions?
There are some albums that can (and should) be dismissed immediately due to individual preferences (not saying this album is one of them).

There are many things that you need to give a couple listens to like some Gorguts albums, Deathspell Omega, Ulcerate, etc. To listen to it once and be like "yeah it didn't click 2.5/5" is to be ignorant.
