Yeah an interesting thing about Linkin Park I've noticed is that Chester never seemed to be behind most of the lyrics, but they all seem to speak to his particular tortured frame of mind. Or maybe it's just that the lyrics would be benign but his voice gives them meaning.
Also TheBoneyKing - dude we were pointing out Chester's writing credits on this album all the way back on page 15. Stay with the times!

There really weren't redeemable qualities to this album. "One More Light" was a decent song, but the album was a misstep.

Album isn't any better or worse with the added context of his death for me. The lyrics to Heavy, Halfway Right, and One More Light were just as much of a gut check back then as they are now. Shame about Bennington, I know he had a lot of issues but he appeared to have overcome them later in life. RIP.

His death was shocking in the sense that he was the main person leading people to forgive, move on, accept, and fight negative thoughts and emotions caused by yourself or other people. His death sends the complete opposite to the people he was helping through this stuff.

When I first heard this album I liked it. But what I heard is someone looking for one last reason to be happy, to keep going. And that's what makes it beautiful. And even haunting in retrospect.

I guess now would be a good time to listen to this, wouldn't it

Looking at all those comments in the Talking to Myself music video and seeing how much goddam fans they have all over the world... Fucking crazy to me

Linkin has one of the biggest and most diverse fanbases across the world, the fact they aren't loved in music websites like rym, pitchfork and more doesn't imply that the band had the same faith that most of their contemporaries which nowdays are a joke or which only are remembered by a small group

t/t is ok. It's the only song that didn't annoy me or bored me to death when I listened to this. I still think this would've been at least decent if it was all acoustic. Context doesn't really alter anything for me, other than I'm downloading that song.

halfway right was always my favorite from this, the part where he says "I woke up driving my car" shows how bad his addictions were at one point. definitely even more painful now to hear some of the verses from this:
"I never been higher than I was that night
I woke up driving my car"
"I couldn't see then what I see right now
The road dissolving like an empty vow"
"Couldn't remember where I'd been that night
I knew I took it too far"
"All you said to do was slow down
But I was already gone"
"I know what I want, but it feels like I'm paralyzed"
Yeah so anyway that song, heavy, and t/t are pretty meaningful

Even though I haven’t liked anything by them really since Meteora, I’ll always have a soft spot for them. They were one of the first bands I really invested myself in as I grew up with them and they really got me into music and finding new bands. And even as sucky as this album is, in retrospect, it’s really devastating and I hate that I hated on it. Still can’t say I like it, but I definitely respect it in context. I’m really getting misty-eyed lulz

I know that, but tbh as a whole this album is bad and that's coming from a very aggresive and militant LP fanboy. There are only 3 decent songs which are talking to myself, sharp edges and one more light, the rest feels like a chainsmokers or avicii remix of imagine dragons or 21 pilots. The worst part is that this has become chester's swan song and that's depressing cuz they were capable to do much better stuff, like it or hate it the other post meteora works had a vast amount of experimentation and things like the hunting party are complex for the standards of mainstream rock, thing that is not exactly present in this album . They were capable to do better songs and to focus the whole album in a more appealing, they should have removed the nanananana and other elements which are out of place. The context has changed but still this album feels uneccesary and it was better that chester had asked for help and decided to take a break instead of recording this, picking fights with old school LP fans and expossing himself to certain conditions that deteriorated his mental health. Despite of all that I will defend this band and their other 6 records until the day I fuckin die

Like I said, "One More Light" was a misstep that could have been fixed. If they stuck with the clean sound exampled in the title track "One More Light," I would have been fine with it. Linkin Park sounds amazing acoustically. They could play their whole discography acoustically and it would sound amazing. In fact, I think it would have improved most songs, but that's just me. The album satisfies curiosity in the fact that many fans have wondered what Linkin Park would sound like if they wrote pop, but I think going into a pop direction entirely wasn't the best decision. I agree that there were some decent songs on the album, and I am also disappointed this became his swan song. Picking fights with fans isn't exactly a deterioration in mental health. Suicide is common in those with chronic pain, poor physical health, past traumatic experiences, and those with severe depression or anxiety. I'm upset to see someone as influential as Chester Bennington die so soon and ultimately become a statistic. This is another example of what a legacy actually means.

i think that the warm yet desolate backdrop of the t/t paired with the gentle clean guitar touches works for the song perfectly
